The Canadian Songwriter Challenge is a component of the CSC (Canadian Song Conference), created by Music PEI through a partnership with other provincial music industry associations. This project matches artists from PEI with artists from across Canada to collaborate and co-write in pairs under the mentorship of a prominent Canadian producer. Each pair of artists will meet to write and record two songs in demo form, first online, then in person in Charlottetown PEI, May 29-June 2.

Music PEI established the CSC in 2015 and was tremendously successful in bringing music industry professionals from across Canada, the US, UK and Australia to PEI to participate. The CSC includes workshops and panels designed to assist artists in developing multiple revenue streams and explores the art and commerce of songs and songwriting.

After the songwriting and recording process is completed, each pair of artists will have an opportunity to present their demos and a selection of their own music at a listening session of delegates recruited for the CSC which will provide excellent business opportunities. These delegates include music supervisors, publishers, and other industry professionals.

SaskMusic is sponsoring the Saskatchewan songwriter spot, and in February 2023, shared Music PEI's call for applicants. Music PEI juried these submissions, and we offer congratulations to the selected Sask songwriter, Brian Paul D.G.

ABOUT

The Canadian Song Conference (CSC), is an annual boutique music conference that focuses on developing multiple revenue streams for songwriters outside of live performance opportunities. Each year a curated roster of music industry delegates from the areas of music supervision, sync/licensing, publishing, radio/broadcasters, labels, and rights organizations travel to Charlottetown from all over the US, UK, and other parts of Canada to participate. This year is the 9th edition of the CSC and will be held from May 31 to June 2, 2023.

Music PEI is thrilled to present a songwriting workshop facilitated by a group of supremely talented producers whose work has been recognized by the ECMAs and the JUNOs as well as panels that are open to the public.

These panels will cover topics such as sync & supervision, pitching for playlists, royalties and metadata, labels and management, and copyrights & royalty splits, and will feature panelists from organizations like VICE, High Priestess Publishing, Acronym Records, Third Side Music, CYMBA Music, and Spotify Canada.
