What we do (the short explanation)

SaskMusic is the non-profit, member-based organization that represents, promotes and develops the commercial music industry of Saskatchewan. We work for Saskatchewan music artists and the music industry on provincial, national and international levels. Essentially, we do as much as we can to help you get where you need to go. That means we help our members develop their skills and we provide the resources they need to succeed in the music business.

We offer programming including artist listings, career consultations, workshops, marketing and export assistance, networking opportunities and much more. Our artists and music professionals hail from across the province, and work in pretty much every genre you can imagine. We are a source of information and resources for both the public, and the music industry. If you have questions about the scene here, we can help.

Our members include musicians, recording engineers, graphic designers, songwriters, sound techs, music teachers, and so on. Whether you play guitar occasionally, or have three albums under your belt, we invite you to join our association.

Membership Benefits (paid memberships)

One on One Consultations (Career Tracks)
Your career is unique. Our staff are available to meet with you to discuss whatever you need to tackle and we have an arsenal of music professionals available to chat with you as well. Members receive unlimited consults, whenever you need us, or simply give us a call when you've got an urgent question. Just one consult is worth the price of your annual membership!

Workshops
Our workshop series will help you develop your do-it-yourself skills in the industry. Depending on the needs of our membership and current trends of the industry, workshop topics vary, but typical topics include such things as how to market yourself, how to apply for grants, songwriting, live performance skills, publishing, pitching for TV/film placements, and much much more. Workshops are usually offered free for members, or at an enormous discount. Most events are presented in Regina and Saskatoon as well as online in webinar format, so you can participate from wherever you are.

Funding Assistance
SaskMusic is the provincial representative for national funding organization FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings), and can offer guidance with applications to other agencies including Creative Saskatchewan

Information
Our highly acclaimed newsletter, The Session, provides news, information on local, national and international organizations and events, performance opportunities, tips, interviews, and articles on business and creative topics. Membership receive a hard copy and preferential placement in the artist news, Featured Artist, and new album release sections.

Through the SaskMusic E-Release and additional special bulletins, members also receive advance notice of opportunities, submission deadlines, and special members-only events and projects. Our e-release was one of the first of its kind in Canada and offers members preferential placement in our Featured Single and Featured Video areas.

Of course, we encourage you to follow us on social media as we post time-sensitive and breaking news. (Links at top right hand corner of this website.)

Promotion
We have one of the busiest websites in the Canadian music industry (averaging 1.86 million pageviews annually). Two of our most-viewed sections are the Events Calendar, listing live music happenings in Saskatchewan, as well as gig listings for Saskatchewan artists on tour, and the Saskatchewan Music Directory, a "yellow pages" for all things music. Members receive beefed-up listings in both areas, as well as have the ability to submit press releases directly into our system.

We are constantly promoting Saskatchewan music to media right across Canada, for example, Saskatchewan artists showcasing at major events like Canadian Music Week, SXSW and Folk Alliance; award nominees; album releases, and generally cool stuff happening with Saskatchewan music. We are out there working on behalf of Saskatchewan artists at many national and international events.

Export Program
We have an in-market consultant to assist, promote and develop export-ready Saskatchewan recording artists’ careers in the UK and Europe. Services include, but are not limited to, research and introductions to appropriate in-market contacts, writing and formalizing relevant pitches and assistance with logistics, backline rental and immigration. We have presented at many international events and can explain what it means to be export-ready - and help you get there.

Special Projects
In addition to regular programming, we help national and local partners with initiatives that vary year to year. For example, we've worked on things like:

Advocacy
We represent the Saskatchewan music industry’s interests to a wide variety of provincial and national panels and stakeholder groups. We speak for your interests and update you on information that could affect you and your career.
