The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange is announcing an anniversary series, celebrating 40 years as an organization and 25 years in The Exchange. The first round of events includes performances from Andy Shauf and a day of artists workshops. “Forty years of making art for everyone in Saskatchewan isn’t something we could celebrate with just a single day,” says Executive Director John Kennedy. “The run of events we’re putting together will be some of the best and most eclectic you’ll see this fall.”
The Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange was founded in 1977 with the goal of making art accessible all across the province. In that time, in addition to programs serving small and rural communities, the organization founded The Exchange, a performance venue that found its current home on 8th Avenue in 1992.
In the midst of a 40th anniversary for the organization and their 25th year in the Exchange, the organization has put together the Saskatchewan Cultural Exchange Anniversary Series, a collection of events showcasing their history in the province and the wealth of Saskatchewan artistic talent. The series kicks off with a day of celebrations and artists workshops in the Exchange on October 14. Saskatchewan artists will be guiding participants through beading, music making, and more. Free cake, face painting, and family fun will be available for all. That night is also the first of the series’ concerts, with Andino Suns joined by Del Suelo in the Exchange. Other shows include Saskatoon roots luminaries The Deep Dark Woods on October 21 and a homecoming for Andy Shauf on November 18. More concerts are set to be announced soon.
“We can’t think of a better capper to 40 years in this province and 25 years down at the Exchange than with a run of great concerts and great workshops,” says Venue Manager and Programmer Zandra Kas. “We’re really excited to celebrate this anniversary and showcase some of the great people who’ve helped us come this far.”
