FREE Recording Contest: The Henhouse Express Junior Annual Contest

FREE Recording Contest: The Henhouse Express Junior Annual Contest

Winners get 1 song recorded and mixed by The Henhouse Express plus a fully edited multi-cam video of all of us playing your song

Deadline: December 30, 2021

An Annual Contest for Budding Songwriters
(All proceeds this year go to the Sarah McLachlan School of Music)
Upcoming deadline for all entries is Dec 30 - get those songs in!

Here at The Henhouse Express, we’ve been doing this remote recording thing for a while now and we have it dialed in. Last year, we started a contest for young songwriters and this year we’re back at it. We want to see what the young ‘uns can bring to the party! So… if you are under 20 years old (or know someone who is that writes songs), and have written at least one song, and would like to have it recorded by your pals at the Henhouse Express, now is your chance. We’re taking submissions now, and will pick the top 3 songs in January. As long as you can provide a track of you singing (we can help, or maybe you know someone locally that can), we will do the rest. You’ll have a fully recorded and mixed song by some of the best players around! That’s it. No strings attached, no entry fee, we just want to work on some of you young folks’ tunes! We’ll even throw in a multi-cam edited video of all of us playing your song that you can use on Youtube, Instagram, etc, and this year we’ll even be facilitating a digital release that will stream on all platforms with all proceeds going to the Sarah McLachlan School of Music in Vancouver, Canada.

To Enter:

You must be under 20 years old to enter. (If you are 17 or under, please have a parent or guardian contact us instead)

Send a rough version of your ORIGINAL song (covers are cool, but they want to hear yours). The quality of recording is not important - you can just sing and play it into your phone.

EMAIL your song, and tell us a bit about it. An MP3 file is best. Please no video links, soundcloud links, etc. Emailed MP3’s only please! Email you track to: steve@thehenhousestudio.com

That’s about it! They'll listen to every single one, and pick the 3 winners and let you know…

What The Henhouse Express is looking for:

They mostly interested in young singer/songwriters. The contest will be judged mostly on the quality of the song itself, and if you can perform it well too, that’s even better. Instrumental ability is not important. If you can play enough to get the song to us in rough form, we can take it from there. You don’t need to be a rippin’ guitar player or virtuoso pianist. But it won’t count against you if you are…

What you can win:

1 song recorded and mixed by The Henhouse Express plus a fully edited multi-cam video of all of us playing your song (again, you’ll have to record your own part yourself). It’s a fun and easy process! If you want more info on what The Henhouse Express is, have a look here. You get the full treatment as if you were paying for the full session, which is a $600 value, plus the edited video. We’ll work together to release your single to the world on all digital platforms.

If You are one of our winners:

You will go through the entire Henhouse Express process outlined here, but basically you…

record your own vocals at home using whatever equipment you have, or rent some, or go to a studio to record them. If you can also film yourself, we can make you a cool little video too!

send the files to The Henhouse Express

get on a Zoom with us to discuss the song and the recording

sit back and watch some Netflix while we go to work!

In a few weeks, you’ll have your song recorded and mixed, and the video will be done shortly thereafter.

We will organize the digital release of all 3 winning songs and send all proceeds generated to the Sarah McLachlan School of Music - a facility that provides free music classes to under-served and at-risk youth.

That’s all there is to it - we can’t wait to hear your songs!
