Connor Newton is a young up-and-coming freelance jazz musician who is reinventing himself through his debut hip hop release. After studying jazz in Toronto for the last few years, sax player Newton returned to Saskatoon with the identity Contrafact and an EP that is grounded in traditional hip hop roots with a strong jazz influence and samples. The album is steeped in prairie references and Saskatchewan humour, while also maintaining a darkly self-reflective tone through deeply personal lyrics. The nine-song album features prominent young musicians from all over Canada.
