Saskatchewan bands creating buzz

Jason Cullimore picked up a 2016 Western Canadian Music Award for Classical Composition of the Year, and then on October 16, members of the Regina Symphony Orchestra conducted by Victor Sawa premiered his stunning new score for the iconic silent film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” (1920). Jason also received a nomination in the Contemporary Classical category of the 15th Independent Music Awards for “Along the King’s Road” (www.jasoncullimore.com).

Rosie & The Riveters were nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at the 2016 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The Awards Gala was December 3 in Toronto. The vintage-inspired vocal quartet also recently received the Emerging Artist Award at the 2016 Saskatchewan Arts Awards, and was selected for a showcase at FolkNorth, Toronto (November 30-December 3). Their single “Ain’t Gonna Bother” peaked at #5 on the CBC Radio 2 Top 20 and at #9 on Earshot Magazine’s Folk & Roots chart (www.rosieandtheriveters.com).

Jess Moskaluke was the top spun Canadian female artist at Canadian country radio in 2016! “Take Me Home” is at #34 on the 2016 Mediabase Year End Country chart and was the #5 most-played Canadian country song at Canadian country radio for the year. In November 2016, her  single “Cheap Wine and Cigarettes,” from debut album “Light Up The Night” was certified platinum. Stay tuned for new music from Jess in 2017 (www.jessmoskaluke.com).

The Sunset Kids’ video “Brave” was nominated for Independent Music Video at the 2016 Hollywood Music in Media - Visual Media Awards. The HMMAs were held in Hollywood on November 17/16 (www.thesunsetkids.ca).

Despite The Reverence released their debut music video, “Solitude” from forthcoming album “Becoming The Savage”. From Saskatoon, DTR is a hard rock act with Tom Liska (lead vocals/guitar), Johnny Fast (lead guitar/vocals), Jordan Poelzer (bass) and Brad Zimmer (drums). The album will be released with Session1 Records, a studio and independent label located in Regina. A western Canadian tour is in the works (http://despitethereverence.com).
