James Gordon is a songwriter/playwright/musician/producer and community activist. As a co-founder of the legendary Canadian folk trio Tamarack, along with his now solo career, he has released forty albums in forty years!

James has written for symphony orchestras, musical theatre and dance works, film scores, and for more than ten years was heard on CBC radio as songwriter-in-residence for the Basic Black and Ontario Morning programs. His songs have been recorded and performed by such varied acts as The Cowboy Junkies, Melanie Doane, Al Simmons, Miranda Mulholland, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and many major choirs. His song “Mining For Gold” was featured in the John Sayles film Silver City. Gordon’s classic “Frobisher Bay” has been recorded by more than 100 different acts worldwide and it’s become a standard for choirs and around campfires.

James has also written, produced and directed six full-length musicals, the latest one being his popular political commentary work Stephen Harper: The Musical. These days he’s perhaps better known as the composer of the viral internet hit “Crybabies Caravan”, about the so-called ‘Freedom Convoy’ in Ottawa. He has produced CDs for many Canadian folk artists, and his popular Rhyme Capsules songwriting-in-the-schools project has resulted in over two dozen CDs of songs by young composers.
