Ellen Froese Band with Rebecca Lappa

When

  • February 22, 2018 - Doors at: 7:30pm / Showtime: 8:00pm

Hailing from a dairy farm in central Saskatchewan, young hip-swinger-folk-singer Ellen Froese is not Joan Baez or a sheep, but the vibrato in her voice may suggest otherwise. As both a solo folk artist (with or without a back-up band) and a member of the bluegrass/folk group In With The Old, there is no doubt that Ellen is a busy bee, balancing the multiple performances and projects of her two artistic endeavors. One of Ellen’s very first gigs was a 2014 opening slot for Catherine MacLellan at the Bassment in Saskatoon; two years later, she was headlining the venue herself after the success of her first solo album release, Get on With the Blues. From a young age and over a short period of time, she has clearly proven herself to be a valued addition to the world of folk music through her poignant vocals and raw talent in musicianship.

Rebecca Lappa may have been Canada's best kept folk-rock secret - until now. The Canadian Folk Music Awards recipient and Edmonton Music Awards winner is Canada's brightest new voice.

The Edmonton based singer-songwriter recently earned top prize for her song, "Valiant of Vimy Ridge" in the Spirit of Vimy contest hosted by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. Rebecca recently took her prize trip to Vimy Ridge (2017) to mark the centennial of the First World War battle. No stranger to winning awards or being sought after for stages often reserved for those of tenure, anyone that knows Rebecca has experienced and witnessed greatness in the making. While her music is a combination of folk, roots and rock, there's "that" voice - compelling in range, certain with every note - and her lyrics - strong, thought provoking, storytelling in nature and sometimes peppered with wit.
