The release of Terry Gillespie’s new album — his fifth solo record — marks his 50^th year as a performer and his 70^th birthday. He’s been part of the Canadian music scene since he immigrated to Canada at the height of the Vietnam War, and helped found Heaven’s Radio, a seminal Ottawa rock band in the days before the Canadian content regulations.
His early experiences playing with legends including Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy have always been part of his music. At the same time, spending his winters in Jamaica has given his blues-rooted music something of a Caribbean feel.
“It’s been way too long since I played in Kelowna,” Gillespie says. “I’m looking forward to it.”
