GrassRoots Regina is pleased to present veteran Canadian singer-songwriter Garnet Rogers in concert.

Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humour and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again.

Garnet Rogers was born in Hamilton, Ontario to parents of Nova Scotian descent. At 18 he was on the road as a full-time working musician with his brother Stan. Together they formed what has come to be accepted as one of the most influential duos in the history of North American folk music. Garnet acted as producer and arranger for his older brother until Stan’s untimely death in 1983.

Since then Garnet has courageously established himself as a formidable solo artist. His style is more modern than the traditional material he played with his brother and draws on influences from blues, rock, country, bluegrass and classical music. Garnet accompanies himself on various guitars that include vintage Gibson acoustic guitars, a National guitar and a Fender electric guitar. With his smooth, dark baritone voice, his incredible range and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere.

Garnet has recorded twelve solo albums with his most recent, Summer’s End, being released in 2014. He has been a featured performer on numerous television and radio programs including Much Music, Mountain Stage and WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour. Though Garnet has enjoyed much popularity over the years, he remains resolutely independent, turning down offers from major labels to ensure that he continues doing music his way.
