Samara Yung

Samara Yung has been performing professionally from a very young age, developing her love of music from her musician father, Murray. Samara’s hometown is Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where her roots run deep and she currently resides.
Samara’s debut album, Show Me the World, produced by Steve Fox, was released in 2008 and led to 2 Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA) award wins; Rising Star and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2010 ceremony.

Samara’s second album, July Rain, was released in December of 2011. This time around, she co-wrote all but one track on the record. She also got the chance to realize her dream of filming a music video with CCMA award winning director Stephano Barberis for the single “Mardi Gras”. The video received airtime on CMT Canada. Her second video with Barberis, “I Wonder Why”, was released in April of 2013.

In 2012, Samara won two more SCMA Awards, for Female Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Everyday Matters”. She was also named one of the top ten female artists in Canada [second ballot 2012 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards]

In 2013 Samara was honoured to win two more SCMA’s for Song of the Year and Video of the year for “Mardi Gras”. She also performed in some of Saskatchewan’s signature events such as the Wounded Warriors Weekend in Nipawin, Saskatchewan Country Christmas Show, benefitting the Saskatoon Crisis Nursery and Agribition in Regina.

In addition to her busy schedule she finds time to be an anti-bullying activist, encouraging children to believe in themselves and to always follow their dreams. She has done this through being a guest on the No More Bullying Campaign with fellow artist Codie Prevost, as well as visiting many schools doing various presentations.

Yung is currently hard at work on her new album, due out later this year and is working along side CCMA Award winning producer, Bart McKay in Saskatoon. She recently signed to Southbound Records and eOne Music Canada and released the album's debut single "Walk Away".
Armed with a distinctive voice and originality, this small town girl has her sights set on making 2014 a year to remember in her career.
