The Bureau
The Bureau have been bringing their collaborative hip-hop to Saskatchewan since the summer of 2013 when they began a summer concert series that grew into a popular 2 year Flip residency. Every other week The Bureau improvised jazzy boom-bap, reinterpreted hip-hop classics, and performed high energy crossover songs, all while featuring established artists or up-and-coming talents to a raucous crowd.

After years of successful live shows and festival performances, The Bureau are ready to squeeze all the magic of their live performance onto the internet and make waves in Canadian hip-hop, all from their home base of Regina, Saskatchewan.

ACHEE
Mike Johnson, AKA Achee, grew up in Sarnia, Ontario and moved to Saskatoon and joined the local Hip-Hop scene in 2015. He released his first mix tape titled “Phobias” in that same year named after a number of his personal fears, including his fear of putting himself out there for people to judge him.

Achee’s style of hip-hop is a unique blend of poetic realism mixed with his own personal, and sometimes, intimate experiences. Whether he is writing new lyrics or trying out new things in the recording studio, Achee is constantly learning and fine tuning his craft.

In 2016, Achee pushed the boundaries of hip-hop in Saskatoon when he introduced a live band to the mix. The Phobias are led by the melodic keyboards of Sarah Manafo and the guitar stylings of Tim Bratton, who also doubles as the groups horn section. They are grounded by the solid rhythmic foundation of Shane Buhler on the drums and Barry Low on bass.

DR.J from Roots Forward Records -

Dr.J began his life-long love of music in 1985 when he purchased his first vinyl LP – a copy of Grandmaster Flash’s “They Said It Couldn’t Be Done”. After years of collecting he bought his first DJ mixer from a high school friend in 1991 and started experimenting with mixing and scratching with an array of make-shift equipment and remnants from his mother’s record collection. October of 1994 marked his first public appearance as a DJ and he hasn’t looked back since. From his humble start doing small electronic parties in his hometown Regina, to his hosting duties at the legendary Lydia’s “Souled Out”(one of Canada’s longest running electronic music weeklies) he was able to make a name for himself as both a promoter and respected DJ in Canada’s electronic music scene. Dr.J currently holds numerous residencies in Saskatoon, hosts the long running “Expansions” radio show and runs Roots Forward Records – an all vinyl label devoted to releasing rare and unreleased 80’s and 90’s rap music, and Funky Pops Records - a label specializing in new funk music from around the world. One word sums up Dr.J – F.U.N.K.
