When

  • May 12, 2017 - Showtime: 5:00pm

21st Street Brewery is excited to announce a unique first-of-its-kind collaboration. We have teamed up with local musician Kris Klyne Music to create Saskatchewan's first beer/song simultaneous release.

On May 12th, we will release Solidarity; a West Coast Session Red, an incredibly drinkable session ale with Casey's usual unique take on the style. On the same day, Kris will release Solidarity; an electrically charged rock song about beer that highlights the unification of people for life, music and craft beer in the spirit of celebration and positive assembly.

To celebrate the marriage of local art, craft, and business, we will be hosting this live event featuring a three-song set of original tunes from Kris, including Solidarity.

To Kris and to us, the concept of the Solidarity beer/song collaboration goes beyond beer and music and is about bringing people together and finding common ground as a community. We decided to honour this ideal by teaming up with the Saskatoon Public Library (SPL) to raise funds for a great project that they are working on.

Our public libraries offer a community-minded approach to education and social enrichment and at a time when funding is still a key issue. Although their funding in the short term has been restored by the provincial government, there are still a great many projects that they undertake which require additional support. One of those projects is aimed at improving science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) literacy in our city and beyond. A STEM-literate society is essential at a time when the world is facing a unique set of environmental, population-based, and health-related problems.

To help support SPL's STEM initiatives, two dollars from every growler fill and one dollar from every pint of "Solidarity" beer sold will be donated to the library. In addition, a free "Solidarity" song download card will be available to the first 100 guests who purchase the beer or donate to the library.

Kris will be joined on stage at 6pm by Randy Woods, Nathan Saggs, andKevin Brown and they can't wait to entertain you.

Please join us to unify under the banner of music, beer, and community.

About Kris Klyne

From his days of singing for chocolate bars at the mall to playing metal at festivals for thousands, Canadian singer/songwriter Kris Klyne’s new musical pursuit has taken him to an unexpected place. His new acoustic rock/post Gen X/ grunge pop sound is a transformation from his metal/hard rock background. He combines his super-charged acoustic writing style with haunting lead guitar melodies and an eclectic array of vocal styles that dance in and out of folk, country, rock, and grunge. Campfire gathering meets pyrotechnic spectacle.

Also known as the front man for hard rock band Firing at the Sky (2013-present) and metal band Morally Sound (1997-2004), Kris began playing guitar and writing songs in his teens. His first project, Aggressive Evil (1992), earned a 4 out of 5 star rating for their debut EP in the national publication, M.E.A.T. Magazine. He later went on to form Morally Sound and in 2000 won the C95/C-Plus Songwriting Competition with his song “The Wanting”.

Although Kris has primarily written music in the metal/hard rock genres, he wanted to explore other writing styles and began writing acoustic songs. He really enjoyed the direction and evolution the music was taking and, in 2017 recorded “Solidarity” and began performing his solo music.

Kris is currently working on new songs for his solo EP to be released in late 2017 and continues to perform with Firing At The Sky.
