Prince Albert born duo APRIL MOON (Jaime April & Jason Moon) infuse a whole heap of prairie charm into their latest single, ‘Uptown Lady Life’, bringing another quirky, yet traditional feeling country tune to the table. Recorded in their adopted hometown of Liverpool, UK, the song tells the familiar tale of a young girl who dreams of something more - which just happens to take the form of a fur coat for this poor farm wife. This marks the duo's fourth and final release of the year, supported by a Help Musicians funding grant.
Inspired by a humble family roots story about Jaime’s paternal grandmother (‘Mémère’ - who lived in Bellevue, Zenon Park & PA), the song highlights Jaime's talent for storytelling with a blend of humour and whimsy. Jason showcases his knack for crafting memorable guitar riffs and even had the chance to try his hand at playing honky-tonk piano, making this a standout track in their repertoire.
As songwriter Jaime April explains, “My Dad recently told me this story about his mother growing up without a lot of money and then late in life, receiving an unexpected inheritance. After being sensible and buying a little house and a snowblower, she went out and bought herself a fur coat. I had never heard this story before and was like…what?? I didn’t know her well because she passed when I was quite young but it totally broke away from this black and white image I had of her in my mind- this demure, French-Catholic farmwife. A fur coat seemed like such a decadent, glamorous purchase and it just made me really stop and relate to her in a real, human way. I couldn’t help but wonder what she was like as a young woman and what sort of dreams she may have had.”
This is the fifth single from APRIL MOON since their full-length album ‘The Other One Was You’ was released in 2022 with radio play on BBC and CountryLine and follows a sold out Liverpool show this past August.
