WieManage at BreakOut West: A Celebration of Talent, Community, and Connection
BreakOut West 2024 in Saskatoon was a showcase of emerging and established talent from across Canada, and for WieManage, it was more than a music festival—it was a chance to dive into the creative pulse of the industry. The energy in the city was undeniable, with venues packed full of music lovers, artists, and industry professionals, all eager to connect. Over the weekend, we experienced firsthand the vibrancy and diversity of Canadian music. Every performance served as a reminder of the artistry that drives the industry forward. For both of us at WieManage, it was not just about the music, but also about building meaningful relationships within the industry.
Casey Mintzler, WieManage Creative Asset Management Partner on her experience at BreakOut West
BreakOut West was a truly unforgettable experience that reignited my passion for live music. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this festival was more than just a series of performances—it was a celebration of creativity and community. Every show reminded me of why we’re in this industry: those moments when the crowd is in sync with the artist, and the energy is electric. I didn’t see a bad performance all weekend, which speaks volumes about the talent BreakOut West brought to Saskatoon.
Tova’s smooth R&B vibes set the tone with infectious melodies and an authentic energy that rippled through the audience. Auto Pilot’s surf punk brought a funky edge, even using a bow on their guitar. okimawᐅᑭᒪᐤ’s acoustic set captivated with culturally rich lyrics, while The Last Birds delivered a heartfelt folk performance, their passion evident as they sang to each other as much as to the crowd.
Merv xx Gotti's performance stood out with a vocal range that shifted effortlessly from powerful to soft. Songs like Jujutsu and Cancer mixed gentle acoustics with strong vocals, and a playful mouth horn during Depressed in the Sun lightened the mood. Melissa Burwell’s psychedelic folk at Broadway Theatre was another highlight, her set atmospheric and mesmerising, full of dreamy melodies.
But what made BreakOut West truly special were the connections we made. Beyond the music, there was a sense of shared experience between fans, industry pros, and artists. I had deep conversations with attendees, exchanged recommendations, and gained insight into how these artists approach their craft. Acts like The Radiant packed venues with powerful vocals that left me and others with goosebumps.
BreakOut West wasn’t just inspiring—it was soul-stirring. It reminded me why I love working in this industry. The talent, the passion, and the collaborations are what make the music world so special. I left with a deeper appreciation for the Canadian music scene and a sense of camaraderie with everyone I met.
