CFCR Saskatoon Community Radio is gearing up for the TWELFTH annual Sled Island Music & Arts Festival showcase "Peace from One Province East" in Calgary AB.
Taking place at Modern Love (613 11 Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 21, 2024 between 2-6 pm. This year features a different format from previous years, with two great Saskatoon artists and two great Regina artists under one roof! They are proud to work in collaboration with good friends over at 91.3FM CJTR - Regina Community Radio in presenting the following stellar lineup:
2pm – Pop Pop Vernac
Since 2017, Pop Pop Vernac has consistently delivered brief, punchy blasts of art-punk fervour. The prolific band of four plays musical chairs with devil-may-care musicianship, frequently trading off singing, playing, and songwriting duties. Come for the grunge punk loudness – get hooked by rapid-fire ripostes of head-spinning, poetic pop melodies.

3pm - TOVA
Born Victor Adeolu Oriola, TOVA is a rising star of Canadian hip-hop. He has produced for artists like Oboise and ADEOLUWA, and his solo work earned him Contemporary Artist of the Year from the 2022 Saskatchewan Music Awards. 2023’s Everything, In Its Time is a swirling EP of piano-driven R&B that beckons listeners into a neo-soul dream.

4pm - respectfulchild
Like the first gentle snowfall of the winter, Treaty 6’s respectfulchild creates ambient soundscapes that envelop listeners like an auditory hug. Their latest release 更新 re:new – which was produced by Rae Spoon – conjures up a dreamscape of looped violin instrumentals driven by themes of self-exploration, rebirth and appreciation of life.

5pm - Man Meat
Prairie punks Man Meat bring the broken parts of songs to the forefront to inspire slow-motion mosh pits. The strong post-hardcore vocals on their latest release You Deserve Better pull you in closer with sharp vulnerability while shoegaze-affected guitar and drum work present a spatial awareness that leaves you wanting more.
