FMO Members Vote in Favour of Special Resolution

The Folk Music Ontario (FMO) Annual General Meeting took place this past Thursday, November 23 via Zoom. During this meeting, Folk Music Ontario members voted on and passed a special resolution to incorporate as a national arts service organization.

"We're very excited that this important step has been taken in our progress towards a national Folk Music Organization. Congratulations to all members of both Folk Music Ontario and Folk Music Canada, and we look forward to exciting changes in the future!" - Folk Music Ontario

BACKGROUND:
In 2019, discussions began about merging Folk Music Ontario (FMO) and Folk Music Canada (FMC) to create a unified national folk music organization for the Canadian folk community. Information was gathered through online surveys, the FMO Conference, and a Town Hall following FMO's Annual General Meeting. In 2020, the formal consultation process with Art of Festivals commenced, recommending the merger to establish a unified national arts service organization.

Collaboratively, FMO and FMC have worked towards this goal through a number of shared projects.  Following the passing of the special resolution, the next step is Folk Music Canada transferring its assets to FMO and subsequently filing for dissolution.

The outcome will be a cohesive national folk music organization that leverages the combined resources of both entities, enhancing services for the Canadian folk community.
