Francophone Music from the West heads to Montreal

by Manitoba Music / SaskMusic

November 4, 2022 in SaskMusic News

Francophone music from Western Canada is returning to centre stage in Montreal this November with Manitoba Music’s Rame à la rencontre de l’industrie de la musique francophone. Running November 7-8, 2022 in partnership with the massive music discovery festival Coup de coeur francophone, Rame focuses on building key music business connections for Francophone music entrepreneurs with an industry showcase, one-on-one industry meetings, and networking opportunities for participants.

Rame offers the Francophone music community a rare opportunity to connect with industry tastemakers, showcase their talents, and learn about the business of breaking into Francophone markets. Influential reps from several independent Canadian labels and management companies will be in the audience to hear the three showcase acts, as well as participate in the business development activities. Supported by Musicaction, this is the ninth Montreal edition of the event.

This year’s showcase features three acclaimed acts at L’Escogriffe bar on November 7. Artists hitting the stage this year are folk and pop-country singer/songwriter Jocelyne Baribeau from Manitoba, Vancouver-based artist Matt Stern, and the hypnotic grooves of Saskatoon’s Ponteix. Each act has had significant recent career activity, including new releases, prestigious performances, and award recognition.

This year’s showcase is sponsored in part by SaskMusic. Artists were selected for this opportunity through an intake conducted by Manitoba Music.

Founded in Montreal in 1987, Coup de coeur francophone is a festival dedicated to the discovery of new artists and promoting songs in a wide range of styles. Presented every November in Montreal as well as in more than 45 other Canadian cities, it brings together national and international performers in a program line-up that features up-and-coming, bold and creative artists.
