Saskatchewan Singer-songwriter Dara Schindelka to Perform at Station Arts Centre in Rosthern

Saskatchewan singer-songwriter Dara Schindelka’s latest collection of songs Saturn Returns was released in May 2022 and she has been touring the province sharing her music live in intimate venues where audience members can appreciate the depth and scope of her vocal abilities as well as her undeniable authenticity. She will perform at the Station Arts Centre in Rosthern SK. on June 24th at 7:30pm.

Saturn Returns is Schindelka’s first full-length CD and follows her earlier EP Thou Art Loosed that received critical recognition including the Folk Award for the March 2020 America Tracks Music Awards for the single Thou Art Loosed. The video for She’s Like a Swallow won Honourable Mention at the Women’s Freedom Song International competition in March 2021.

While the underlying theme of Thou Art Loosed focused on freedom and empowerment for women, Saturn Returns was inspired in part by Brandi Carlile’s book Broken Horses as well as some major transformational changes in Schindelka’s own life.

“It’s an intimate personal journey woven through the songs,” says Schindelka. “I believe the human experience is one to be shared because we go through so much. We’re all on this journey together. It’s something that other people can totally relate to as well.”

Supported by a major grant from Creative Saskatchewan for the professional recording of Saturn Returns, each song relies on Schindelka’s uncommonly unique vocals that in one moment resonate with strength and depth in contrast to others where there’s a remarkable vulnerability.

As a child, Schindelka sang in church choirs and at school and was often asked to sing at funerals where she first connected with the emotional power of her voice and music. Her early professional training was with George Randolph at his School of Performing Arts in musical theatre, an experience she still values. And while Randolph says that Schindelka’s
“…voice is golden”, Saskatchewan singer-songwriter Jefferey Straker says she is “Quite likely the best singer I know.”

While singing and music is something that she has always loved and enjoyed, Dara Schindelka says that she isn’t concerned about “hitting the big time” and that she considers singing her calling.  “My whole intent, I feel, is sharing my journey and having other people (realize) that they are not alone with this.”

Saturn Returns is available on all streaming services and CD’s are available from her web site:
