Slow Down Molasses and The Garrys have received official showcase invitations to The Great Escape (May 11-14/2022), Brighton UK through the festival’s own curation process. 26 Canadians in all are on the schedule to play this year’s prestigious event.

SaskMusic and Canadian partners will be presenting an additional pre-TGE Canadian artist showcase in London on Tuesday, May 10 at Strongroom. The event is open to the public and will include The Garrys. Additionally, opportunities for the artists to participate in B2B meetings pre-TGE are being coordinated by SaskMusic's in-market export consultant, Enki Music.

Both Saskatchewan artists will perform Friday May 13 for the Canada House Canadian artist showcase event presented by Music Export Canada (CIMA - Canadian Independent Music Association) at Green Door Store. This event is sponsored in part by SaskMusic.

  • 1215pm Slow Down Molasses
  • 1pm The Garrys
  • 145pm Super Duty Tough Work
  • 230pm Jaywood
  • 315pm Mauvey
  • 4pm Bad Waitress

The Sask artists have additional official TGE showcases as follows:

  • Slow Down Molasses: Saturday May 14 8:15pm at Three Wise Cats (Casablanca)
  • The Garrys: Friday May 13 9:15pm at Jubilee Square

Showcasing artists were selected by TGE through their own intake process. SaskMusic as an organization is not sending staff to attend this year’s event, although we are supporting Saskatchewan's representation at TGE.

For transparency we note that our staff member Kaelen Klypak was, as an individual working musician, asked to play drums with Slow Down Molasses for this event. This invitation came after the band was selected by TGE to perform, and falls outside of Kaelen’s duties at SaskMusic.

About The Garrys

The Garrys are a trio of sisters from the coldest part of the landlocked Canadian prairies. Formed in the spring of 2015, The Garrys use layered 3-part blood harmonies, hazy sun-bleached melodies, classic lo-fi guitar tones, and syncopated surf beats to create a unique “doom-wop” sound, dripping with dark nostalgia and touched by psychedelic dread. Their music is likely to leave you with an urge to do the Watusi, bittersweet thoughts about slow-dancing with your middle school crush, or a nagging feeling that it’s not quite safe to go back into the water.

About Slow Down Molasses

Confronting bristling anxious energy with highly-pronounced pop edges, Slow Down Molasses of Saskatoon, Sask. Canada has never been shy about traversing shifting sonic territories. And on their latest LP, entitled Minor Deaths, the four-piece plunge deep into delay trails and feedback decay with a sound steeped in existential dread and simmering guitar rock post-punk sunshine. Easily their most concise and devastating work yet, Minor Deaths is a suite of eight songs that make controlled swerves into melodic indie rock landscapes while paying homage to the tightly-wound nervousness of post-punk unease.

The Alternative Escape, Spotlight Shows, secret gigs, club nights and spontaneous collaborations add to the festivities and make this weekend in Brighton one not to miss.
