Advanced Songwriters, apply now: Music PEI’s Canadian Songwriter Challenge 2020
SaskMusic is partnering once again with Music PEI to allow one SaskMusic artist/songwriter member to participate in their annual Canadian Songwriter Challenge, taking place approximately May 17-23 in Charlottetown PEI. (The Canadian Song Conference takes place May 20-22 and selected Challenge songwriters will be required to arrive early, and allow for travel time.) Current SaskMusic members who meet the criteria noted are invited to apply. Applications from all musical styles, genders, cultures and other measures of diversity are encouraged. Travel and participation expenses will be covered for the selected songwriter.
The Music PEI Canadian Songwriter Challenge (supported by Bell Media) is a component of their Canadian Song Conference and was created by Music PEI through a partnership with other provincial music industry associations. The focus of this event is on creating opportunities for artists and industry professionals to develop multiple revenue streams from their songs. This includes licensing for film, TV, video games, commercials and special projects, publishing, royalties and more. There will be a number of workshops and panels during the conference which will all have will be lead by leading industry professionals in their field. The project puts artists from PEI together with artists from across Canada to collaborate and co-write in pairs. Each pair of artists has 2 days to write and record two songs in demo form. After the songwriting and recording process is completed, each pair of artists will have an opportunity to present their demos at a listening session of delegates recruited for the CSC for potential business opportunities. These delegates include music supervisors, publishers, and other industry professionals.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Sunday, February 2, 2020, 5pm.
Evaluation:
- Applicant will submit two songs for evaluation.
- Applicant will provide a short statement of interest; current activities/career developments; and answer a checklist of some milestones that may apply.
- Applicant must be a current SaskMusic member and current resident of Saskatchewan.
- Applicants must be available between May 17-May 23, 2020 (exact dates will determined as travel arrangements are confirmed).
- Applicants must be a songwriter who would also be able to perform at the CSC weekend.
Evaluation will be done by a jury of peers + SaskMusic staff. The selected applicant will be notified shortly after the deadline. The songwriter will receive a travel allowance to cover return flights to Charlottetown PEI, accommodation, a studio to work in, meals and conference registration.
