A new festival has emerged from the underground here in Saskatoon- and they are ready to ROCK. Pretty In Punk Fest is a not-for-profit music festival, centred in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The festival celebrates creativity, originality, activism, and of course, alternative music. Pretty In Punk is an Alternative Music Revolution, working to create an inclusive, safe, and progressive music festival that helps to advocate and give voice to groups of different backgrounds.
"I think what makes Pretty In Punk so important to not only us, but to our community as well, is that [the festival’s] core is rooted in the Saskatchewan underground scene,” says Pretty In Punk Director, Gabrielle Giroux. “Alternative music, like punk, has always been here and alive, but it’s so hard to find! You have to travel out of province to see anything like it. What we’re trying to do is showcase it right here in our community. It's about bringing the "punk attitude" to the limelight, and saying, ‘Enough is enough! We are tired of the racism. We are tired of the sexism. We are tired of all the hate. Now we're going to do something about it.’ To me, that’s exactly what it means to be Punk.”
Pretty In Punk will be hosting their official 2019 Teaserfest on September 13th at the Capitol Music Club. The Teaserfest is set to be a hit already as Regina’s very own Surf Dads
and Trash Hawks
are joining the head-lining act, Toronto’s Die Mannequin
, to offer loud, hypnotic music and punk vibes. Tickets now available at www.prettyinpunkfest.com
Official Pretty In Punk Merch will be available for purchase at the “Thrift Shop” at the event. The merchandise is created entirely out of up-cycled merch and every piece of clothing is a rare gem in it’s own. Exclusive Pretty In Punk TeaserFest designs will be available for purchase as well.
