SaskMusic was in attendance at this year’s PASSPORT: Music Export Summit masterclass, held at the National Music Centre. The event, an initiative of the federal government, was designed as an intensive development and training session for export-ready self-managed artists and artist managers. Partners in the event include FACTOR, The Government of Canada, Manitoba Music, Music Nova Scotia, Studio Bell and Canada’s Music Incubator.

The calibre of instructors/mentors was very high and included Joanne Setterington (Indoor Recess), Adam Lewis (Planetary Group), Mark Jowett (Nettwork), and was presented and lead by Coalition Music. The days were long, and the material covered in-depth, including accessing new markets, radio, publicity and a host of other subjects.

Samurai Champs were invited by PASSPORT organizers to participate in the first round of PASSPORT in Winnipeg - Music Export Summit West – February 21-25, 2018, as well as the masterclass in Calgary. The weekend concluded with a public showcase at the NMC that featured some of the self-managed artists, including Samurai Champs (www.passportmusic.ca).
