Electronic pop musician Natural Sympathies emerged from the Canadian prairies with self-produced EP “Strange Heavens” June 2 on the Prairie Shag label. She followed up with a string of dates during the summer months including Sled Island Music Festival. The solo project of musician Amber Goodwyn (formerly of Montreal bands Cobra & Vulture and Nightwood), she has traded her former guitar music for low-fi, pared-down pop ditties, an eclectic mix of playful vocal harmonies, imaginative lyrics, insolent drum machine beats, organ and synth. In her previous bands Goodwyn toured and performed at music festivals like Pop Montreal, NXNE, and Phog Fest. With musical influences ranging from Kate Bush and Laurie Anderson and landing somewhere between Jenny Hval, Zomes and Cyndi Lauper, Natural Sympathies has emerged as a strange and hilarious songbird (www.naturalsympathies.com).
