With masterful musicianship, energetic rhythms, and a passion for fiddle and pipe tunes, Saskatchewan based and Nova Scotia named West of Mabou bring their CD Release show to the Creative City Centre’s Hague Gallery for two nights on January 14th and January 15th. With a sold out Saturday show, and a show that is selling quickly on Sunday, West of Mabou launch their album release in the intimate 43-seat performance space at Creative City Centre, and offer fans a new way to experience the music of this high energy five-piece group.
Since releasing their album online, West of Mabou has received international radio play, and has received positive reviews. Great Dark Wonder, an online music community says, “If you enjoy traditional music delivered with an occasional modern twist – and don’t mind the temptation to chair dance when you’re listening to this at work – this album is highly recommended.” West of Mabou is a Creative Saskatchewan’s Sound Recording Grant recipient and has worked with multi-JUNO-winning engineer and producer, John DS Adams. With each of the members an experienced performer in their own rights including experience from festival performance, competitions, pubs and ceilidhs around the world, such as the World Pipe Band Championships, Canmore Highland Games, Western Canadian Music Awards, Canada Cup of Curling, and Ford World Men’s Curling Championships, West of Mabou will continue combining old and new into an energetic fusion of talent and passion, qualities Saskatchewan musicians are known for.
Beginning the year with a fresh album, and being one of CBC Saskatchewan’s 2017 Artists to Watch, West of Mabou will continue to charm audiences with their impossible to sit-still tempos and their ability to fold celtic sounds with modern inflections into a recipe for dance.
West of Mabou hits the Creative City Centre’s Hague Gallery stage for the first night to a sold out room on Saturday, Jan 14th with doors at 7:30pm and the show starting at 8:00pm. Tickets are still available for the extended album release show Sunday, January 15th with doors at 7:30pm and the show starting at 8pm. Tickets are $17 + GST in advance or $20 + GST at the door.
