Historic Regina Band the Extroverts Releases New Album, Tours Western Canada

Regina post-punk/new wave/rock band the Extroverts formed in 1979, wrote 50 songs and played extensively across the Prairie provinces before breaking up in 1982. Playing a mix of originals and covers by The Clash, The Ramones and other energetic bands of the day, they developed a reputation for fun live shows and quirky, danceable songs. Although many demos and live recordings were made, only two songs were ever properly recorded: 1980’s 7” single Living in Poverty/Political Animals.

Fast forward to 2009, when Extroverts’ old punk rock pals from Vancouver, DOA, played a show in Regina. The Extroverts reformed for what was planned to be a one-off, but had so much fun, they just kept playing.

ROCK AND ROLL TIME MACHINE

While preparing for the 2009 DOA show, the Extroverts discovered lyrics from 1979-ish that had never been put to music the first time around. Between 2009 and 2016, new songs were created from the old lyrics, and the result is the Extroverts’ first-ever full-length album, SUPPLE.

The twelve songs that comprise SUPPLE are high-energy, melodic tunes that boast the signature 1980 Extroverts’ sound, but with a musical maturity that comes with years of music and life experience. The lyrics are sprinkled with references to digital watches, Xerox machines, steno pools, and UHF/VHF TV frequencies - a quick Google search will help you sort out what these late-70’s terms mean.

Extroverts’ original wave fans were excited to see the band back in action, but perhaps a bit surprisingly, a new generation of fans has discovered the fun and power of an Extroverts show, and the drive and hooks of Extroverts songs. Members of popular Regina band Library Voices took a special interest: Mike Dawson helped guide the group in marketing and promotion, and Carl Johnson produced the new album, SUPPLE.
