Rosie & the Riveters are four sassy dames from Saskatoon who perform uplifting music with a 1940s flare, combining The Andrews Sisters’ vintage vocal treatment with Mahalia Jackson’s soul and the sweetness of The Good Lovelies. It will be difficult to top the thrill of performing for members of the Royal Family, Prince Edward and Princess Sophie, in June, but the quartet is undertaking their very first tour to the U.S., following a few prestigious festivals and shows at home in Canada. They continue to celebrate the release of their debut album, “Good Clean Fun!” which reached #5 on the CBC Radio Top 20 and #9 on the earshot! folk/roots/blues chart in the fall of 2015. Selling out shows across Canada, they recently also had an appearance on eTalk Canada and guest spots on CBC’s The Next Chapter and CBC Music’s How-To Series (www.rosieandtheriveters.com).

Artificial Lift has released a music video for “Crooked Bush,” a hard-hitting rock song about the popular Saskatchewan tourist attraction. The video was filmed within the Crooked Bush itself and brings a “light VS dark” theme to contrast the mystical yet disconcerting features of the twisted trees. This release was a prelude to the band’s scheduled Canada/USA tour ).

Saskatoon’s Fern has changed her performance name to Rachel Elizabeth. This summer she coached at the Girls Rock Camp Saskatoon, as well as releasing “The Spendthrift and the Swallow”, a collaborative single with Juniperus.

Saskatoon indie-rock band Friends of Foes added singer/songwriter Danielle Huot to the band as their new vocalist (following the departure of longtime band member Celeste Nicholson, then embarked on a cross-Canada tour from July 8-29, playing material from their most recent release “Faults,” as well as debuting a selection of brand new, unreleased material

Saskatoon composer/pianist Jesse Brown has been awarded a grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board to compose “a plethora of piano pieces for the early to late intermediate pianist.” He posts, “I take this task to heart and hope to engage beginning and developing pianists with fun, exciting, and new work. I look forward to sharing these pieces with you in a few months” (www.jessebrown.net).

Imagine a world where the super touches the natural everyday, where answers meet questions with joyful exuberance, and where beauty and mystery are just waiting to be discovered around any given corner. Such are the joys of childhood. With these thoughts in mind, Native American Music Award winners Becky Thomas (2011 Best Female Artist for “Sacred Ground”) and Kelly Parker (2009 Best Producer for “Out of the Blue”) came together to co-write “Eyes of a Child”, the first release from album “Music From Turtle Island - Songs For Freedom”
