CQUEL has eleased “Embrace the Dark”, the first single/video from new EP “Never Enough” out February 26. Shot and directed by Dilly Bat Productions, “Embrace the Dark” is a great example of Cquel’s knack for going against the grain of what sounds are trending, and/or traditional among today’s popular hip-hop, and doing his own thing. The video is shot in black and white, limited locations, and contains a variety of intense transitions. The concept is Cquel reaching out to anyone coping with anxiety, depression, or self doubt, and encouraging them to embrace their hardship and believe in themselves. As an MC’s MC, Cquel freestyles and rips battle rhymes with the best of them, but over the past two years he has spilled a lot more personal and emotional experiences into his music. He often points out in song how he finds the positive in each situation, and lives by the notion that if you can believe it you can achieve it - so believe in your vision.

After spending the latter part of 2015 writing with some of North America’s most prolific writers and building a strong industry team, Regina’s  Alex Runions released new single “If I Won the Lotto” to country radio on January 25. It is a fun, loose and energetic song - something we need to help get us through the winter blues. The track appears on his current album release, “South of the City” (September 2015) recorded at two-time CCMA Studio of the Year, MCC Recording Studios (Calgary). Performing throughout Canada, Runions has taken stages at Big Valley Jamboree, Craven Country Jamboree, Dauphin Countryfest and is a regular on the Canadian country club circuit. Alex acknowledges the support of the Big Dog 92.7 FM/SaskMusic “Next Big Thing” competition (2013) which opened the door for the creation and production of the new album. Recently, his hometown of Kipling accredited his successes with the placement of two large “Kipling’s Own Alex Runions, Country Recording Artist” signs. With tour dates well into 2016, Alex will be on the road for performances and radio visits (www.alexrunions.com).

Regina-based and 15 years of age, Terrina’s voice raises eyebrows. Her debut pop single “Tumbling Down” was released in the summer, and was produced at Regina’s Blue Door Recording.  A second single is in the works as Terrina continues to record and prepare for live shows.

Caitlin Beaton has been singing since she was a little girl. She is the apple that didn’t fall far from the proverbial tree - her father being drummer Bruce Beaton of Slow Motion Walter, who raised her with strong music roots and a love for performance. Now 19 years of age, Caitlin’s lyrics are braver than you’d expect. Her first single “Mind Your Business” was released summer 2015, and the follow-up, “Over You,” came out on February 14. Her sound has drawn comparisons to acts like Serena Ryder and Adele.

Growing up between Lagos and Oyo State Nigeria, Davy Sage was always destined to drop beats. Now living in Regina and pursuing his music career, Davy’s talent as a writer and singer is bringing him deserved attention. His infectious single “High” (September 2015) is a laid back Afro-Pop song with an easy chorus & a dance-worthy beat; an official video for the song was released in January. The follow-up single, “Waiting For You,” dropped February 5. Stay tuned for more from this talent!

Jess Moskaluke released new single “Take Me Home” in February, following a year where she ranked as the “most spun female Canadian artist on Canadian country radio” and the #2 “most spun solo female artist on Canadian country radio” - only behind Carrie Underwood! 2015 was a year of many firsts for Jess, receiving her second CCMA for Female Vocalist of the Year, her first JUNO nominations, a cross-country tour joining Chad Brownlee’s “When The Lights Go Down” tour, her first arena shows supporting Paul Brandt and Dean Brody’s “Road Trip” tour, and even her first Top 10 hit with the single “Kiss Me Quiet” (www.jessmoskaluke.com).

Saskatoon’s Elly Thorn has released single and video, “You Didn’t Even Know Me” with proceeds donated to Syrian refugees via the Canadian Red Cross. Local philanthropist Kay Nasser, Elly’s father-in-law, has committed to match sales of the single up to $100,000. The Nasser family immigrated to Saskatoon from Lebanon and still has relatives living in Syria (www.ellythorn.com).

HUNTER BROTHERS, hailing from Shaunavon, have released their first country single, “El Dorado”, February 5 after signing to Open Road Recordings. They are indeed five talented musical brothers, boasting two professional/junior hockey players, a seniors’ choir conductor, an aviation enthusiast and dedicated kombucha drinker. They’re no strangers to the stage, but  2016 marks the first time they’ve come together to create a collection of songs that they hope will earn them attention on country radio stations across Canada. “El Dorado” combines the experienced production skills of Brad Rempel (High Valley), Grammy Award-winning producer Seth Mosley and Michael (X) O’Connor. Influenced by harmonies brought to life by Rascal Flatts and Little Big Town, the brothers are hopeful that their new album will showcase the Hunter family’s appreciation for dreaming big and working hard (https://www.facebook.com/HunterBrothersMusic).
