Theme Song Contest Launched for the Saskatchewan Summer Games

The Saskatchewan Summer Games are being held in Estevan in 2016! The Estevan Host Committee, in partnership with SaskMusic, is proud to announce a search for a brand new theme song to inspire the athletes and become a part of the lifelong memory that will accompany these events.

We are looking for an energetic, passionate, thematic piece of instrumental music which can be used to promote the upcoming Games, as well as to be used as their opening and closing theme music. Saskatchewan composers are invited to prepare a new piece, or submit an existing composition for consideration. This contest will be primarily of interest to those currently working in film and TV scoring, instrumental composers, and so on. The composer of the winning piece will receive a $1000 cash prize as well as licensing fees for the composition’s use in the 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games as well as the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games. The deadline for submissions is June 19, 2015.

Background

In March 1972, the Saskatchewan Government announced the inauguration of the Saskatchewan Games. This announcement gave Saskatchewan athletes of all ages the opportunity to participate in multi-sport games. Over the years, the games have grown as various cultural activities have been incorporated. The purpose of the games has also evolved. The focus of the games is now on athletes in the ‘train to train’ stage of development, providing them the opportunity to prepare for competition at higher levels. Estevan is excited to prepare to host athletes from all nine of the Sport, Cultural, and Recreational Districts: Northern, Parkland Valley, South West, Lakeland, Prairie Central, Rivers West, Regina, Saskatoon, and Estevan’s home region of Southeast Connection.

Estevan was named the host of the multisport games, which will involve over 2,000 athletes, coaches, and managers in 13 sports representing nine sport districts from across the province. The Games take place July 24–30, 2016.
