Spring Workshop, Hiring New Staff, Supporting Jeffrey Straker Show

May 2014 is proving to be a busy month for Saskatoon's Studio Xii Music & Dance Co.

They are pleased to present a songwriting workshop "Spring into Songwriting" on Saturday, May 31 in Saskatoon.  Join workshop speakers Elias Edlund (Grant MacEwan) and Micheal Lander (Studio Xii Music & Dance Co.) as they dive into the depths of songwriting and share their wealth of knowledge and experience. There will be two classes offered both of which are intended to cover foundational approaches and technical knowledge. The Beginners class runs 1-4PM and includes: Basic structure, form functions, story development, diatonic studies, interval relations and pentatonics. The Intermediate class runs 4:30-7:30pm and includes: Rhyme and syllables, spotlighting, balance and stability, non-diatonic studies, chord progressions and modal variations. The studio is also happy to announce they will be expanding and are now accepting applications for teachers and administrative staff to begin in August, 2014. They are seeking a part-time Administrative staff member from Monday-Thursday, 4pm - 8pm. They are also seeking guitar, piano, voice and Dance Instructors. The Studio will also support a special concert with Jeffery Straker @ The Listening Room in Saskatoon on Thursday, May 15 – 7:30PM. Singer-songwriter-pianist Jeffery Michael Straker performs over 100 shows per year across Canada. He has recorded for CBC radio’s ‘Canada Live’, had a music video chart in the top 10 on Much More Music Canada and in 2012 toured in Africa. His tour stops range from intimate house concerts to club & theatre shows and include recent sold-out concerts (capacity 2000) with the Regina Symphony Orchestra (2011) and Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (2013). His latest accolade includes winning the prestigious Vina del Mar (Chile) song competition in February 2014. Representing Canada, Jeffery perfomred live to a crowd of 20,000 people and to a TV audience of 100,000,000 viewers across the Spanish speaking world.
