SaskMusic and the Regina Folk Festival are excited to present this songwriting workshop with Edmonton-based roots/blues artist, Kat Danser on Wednesday, March 5, 7PM at The Club (2431 8th Avenue) in Regina.

Award-winning and national touring musician, Kat Danser, will facilitate a highly energetic, entertaining and inspirational approach to songwriting. Whether you are a beginner or have some ‘keepers’ under your belt, you are sure to leave this workshop with skills and techniques to advance your approach.

This event will be of particular interest to those just getting started in songwriting, as well to those more established writers who wish to expand their knowledge and expertise of the craft.

About Kat Danser:

Danser’s music navigates a paddle steamer from the muddy banks of the Mississippi Delta downriver toward a big ol’ full moon over New Orleans. Dubbed “Queen of the Swamp Blues”, this prairie guitar slinger, songsmith, and blazing vocalist channels the spirit of roots, blues and gospel music pioneers. A national touring and award-winning artist, Danser has performed at the 25th Women Blues Revue at Massey Hall (Toronto), Calgary International Blues Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Folk on the Rocks in Yellowknife, Regina Folk Festival, and many more. Her accolades of late include an award for “Best Blues Album” (Alberta-International Blues Foundation), the “Top 13 of 2013” - CBC Radio, a Maple Blues “Best New Artist” nomination, two Western Canadian Music Award “Blues Recording of the Year” nominations, and a Masters in Music from the University of Alberta.

Danser is regarded as a specialist in roots and blues music by her academic peers. She holds an MA in Musicology and is completing her PhD at the University of Alberta, where she teaches popular music as a sessional instructor. With substantial teaching experience, Danser’s specialties including roots and blues history, musical structures, songwriting, vocals, and slide guitar.
