Straker set to Perform in Africa

Saskatchewan singer-songwriter-pianist Jeffery Straker is set to leave on a 7 concert tour in Africa, February 2012. Straker will perform concerts in Ghana, and will also facilitate songwriting workshops for local students and musicians in the capital city, Accra.

Concerts range from full theatre shows to house concerts, and the tour has Saskatchewan origins. “This is kind of a ‘you never know who is in the audience’ sort of scenario”, says Straker. The concert promoter heard Straker perform solo at a house concert in Saskatoon 3 years ago and shortly after, moved to Africa. After sharing his music with local venues and members of the arts community, she saw significant interest and realized that a tour was a very real possibility.

“I’ll collaborate with local musicians for some of the shows and we’re also staging a public open jam that will have traditional percussionists take part. I’m really excited to share my music with this new audience.” The singer-pianist will also perform with a local school concert band as part of the series.

Straker leaves February 8 and returns to Canada February 20 for several Canadian dates and the launch of a new album in May/June. Watch for dates.
