Voices In My Heads
Southsiders
July 2017
Southsiders are rapper Cheeky (Dan Sherven) and musician Chad Neald. This Regina hip-hop duo draws inspiration from Minneapolis rap group Atmosphere, and Canadian rap sensation Shad, in their sound and flow. Cheeky’s lyrics delve into his broken relationship with his daughter’s mother, racism in Saskatchewan faced by First Nations peoples, struggles with suicide, depression, schizophrenia and why he’s a nasty MC. Their first studio album ranges from Neald’s acoustic guitar ballads to multi-instrumental soundscapes which sample jazz legends to create a diverse hip-hop experience.
Recorded at: home studio, Regina. Produced by: Jordan Ast. Released: July 11, 2017
