SaskMusic is pleased to present a series of FREE music workshops as part of Culture Days in Saskatchewan. These workshops are intended to give an overview and introduction of different aspects of being a music artist with tips, tricks, and best practices for developing your music career. Whether you are just starting out in your musical journey or an experienced artist, these workshops will have something for you!

Want to start recording music at home but not sure where to begin? In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn the essentials of building a home studio that fits your space and budget. We’ll cover the key gear you'll actually need, how to set it up for the best sound, and tips to get you recording right away. Perfect for musicians, songwriters, and creators who want to capture their ideas at home with confidence.

No matter your skill level, you’ll leave inspired and ready to create music from home.

This class will provide an entry-level to advanced-level introduction to making music electronically and digitally. Using the entry-level fundamentals of DAW production, Mahihkan will demonstrate a free-to-low cost approach to getting started. Utilization of Reaper DAW and Loopmasters will be demonstrated with the entry-level production portion. From there, Mahihkan will demonstrate more advanced work, using Ableton Live and Ableton Push. Whether you are well experienced in digital audio music design or have no experience at all, this course will provide you with great information and demonstrations to help get you where you want to go with beatmaking.

Mahihkan Music Bio:
The legend begins in a small rural town of Lestock, Saskatchewan, also known as little Chicago. Mahihkan, meaning Wolf in Cree, began to record, edit, overdub and sound design using a small tape recorder in the early 1990s. From there, Mahihkan moved forward into the digital age, recording, sound engineering and beat making on computer. Using Sonic Foundry, Vegas Audio, Cake Walk and fruity loops, Mahihkan began his music creation journey. Mahihkan has began in the hard rock scene in 2001, to which he moved into Rap/Rock under the name Dark Disc. Mahihkan made his transition into electronic music back in 2019.
