Métis Fiddle Weekend with Patti Kusturok

When

  • March 20, 2026 - Showtime: 7:00pm
  • March 21, 2026 - Showtime: 9:00am

Learn a selection of tunes composed by Andy De Jarlis from North American Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame member and University of Manitoba fiddle instructor Patti Kusturok! This intermediate-advanced fiddle weekend focuses on the repertoire of Manitoba Métis fiddler Andy De Jarlis in a classroom setting. A playlist of tunes will be provided in advance of the weekend to facilitate ease of learning and Patti will teach from the aural tradition. The entirety of this workshop weekend will be taking place at St. George’s Senior Centre (1235 20th St W, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 5B6)

The weekend will kick off at 7PM on Friday (March 20) with Old-Time Dance 101! Bring your bluegrass and old-time instruments to play a lively session of dance tunes. A concession will be available with snacks & pop/coffee.

Classes will take place Saturday, March 21 from 9AM-5PM (lunch included), and Sunday, March 22 from 9AM-12PM (snacks included on both days).

Saturday night (March 21) will include a lively dance led by Patti Kusturok, starting at 7:30PM. Andy De Jarlis was a celebrated band leader who put on the best of dances, so get excited to hear all of his tunes out on the floor! We’ll have square dances, polkas, waltzes, and more! Come grab a refreshment at the bar and dance the night away, with a good old-fashioned late-night lunch to wrap up a wonderful evening. Dance tickets are included in the workshop registration. Dance tickets for those not registered for the weekend can be purchased online or at the door!
