Description

NIKAMOK means 'sing' in nēhiyawēwin (Cree language) and is the acclaimed singing duo of Cheryl L'Hirondelle (Halfbreed) and Joseph Naytowhow (Nēhiyaw). Story has it that the duo met on Treaty Six land in the fall of 1995 and began singing together almost instantaneously.  Their self-titled album was nominated for a 'Best Aboriginal Recording' at the Prairie Music Awards (now the WCMA's) in 2001.

Though the duo no longer tour, they still work on special projects, co-writing songs and stories and recording them. The duo also does co-writes with younger Indigenous songwriters interested in incorporating nēhiyawēwin and Indigenous songforms into their sound.
