Description
“Joule Tallman writes and performs with the conviction and honesty of folk heroes like Guy Clark, John Prine, and Townes Van Zandt. She is clearly inspired by music that is uncomplicated and driven by the heart. Tubbs is a talented multi-instrumentalist who lends his unique voice and arrangements to these well crafted songs. Whether he’s playing upright bass, mandolin, or guitar, he takes it to the next level, and together Tubbman Junction delivers a powerful experience filled with emotion and harmony that is uncompromisingly artistic and joyful." ~ Ryan Shotton, Artistic Director, Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Time Music Society; Lead guitar & vocal harmonies with Kory Istace vs Time Pirates; Vocalist & multi-instrumentalist with Rugged Little Thing
The vocal stylings of Tallman have been likened to Bonnie Raitt and Sarah MacLaughlin, while Riley Tubbs brings his Sam Bush-style mandolin picking and iconic double bass slapping inspired by Lee Rocker, Roy Husky Jr and Willie Dixon.
Joule Tallman has led such projects as Born Trouble, recording a 16 track album of original songs & spoken word featuring Eliza Doyle, Ryan Shotton, David Hutton, Peter Abonyi, Thomas Roussin, and Willy Forsythe in 2011. Born Trouble (with Brenda Jackson) opened for the Seahags in 2010 and (with Willy Forsythe) opened a series of shows for Tim Hus in 2011, as well as performing at Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Tyme Music Festival that same year. In 2015 Tallman rebanded with Brenda Jackson & Kathryn Imrie in a harmonic trio centred around a single guitar to deliver Tallman’s tunes to a receptive audience at Northern Lights Bluegrass & Old Tyme Music Fest as The River Sisters before deciding to hang up music to dedicate time to raising her young daughter.
Riley Tubbs has an extensive touring history, playing upright bass & singing harmonies since 2002 all over North & Central America with Tim Hus, Allen Christie, Canadian Whitewater, Dick Damron, and Amber Williams Band; sharing stages with the likes of Corb Lund, Ian Tyson, Ramblin’ Jack, Adam Gregory, and Sean Hogan; recording in Nashville with Harry Stinson (Grammy Nominee & Member of Musician’s Hall of Fame) and other members of Marty Stuart’s Fabulous Superlatives.
“The emotional resonance in their performance was truly special—each song carried a weight that stirred the crowd, creating a connection that lasted long after the music ended. The pair brought raw emotion and vulnerability to the stage, making every moment feel deeply personal, yet universally relatable.” ~ Lindsay Breidenbach, Multicoloured Music Management; Community Kitchen Coordinator, Ness Creek Music Festival
The duo is known for digging into your feelings like digging into the dusty old trunk where songs have been stored for a decade, bringing tears on the heels of smiles and healing hearts with a soul connection that can only be described as electric, acoustically. “We are planning for studio time with some local talents over the winter so we have something lasting you can take home when we can’t be together,” shares Joule. From fundraisers and intimate kitchen parties to festivals and campfire stages, Tubbman Junction is all the places we meet.
