Description

Valerie Wiebe is an artist, singer/songwriter and designer living and working on a farm south of the town of Langham, Saskatchewan. Valerie has degrees in Music, Arts Education, Fine Arts-Painting and Fine Arts-Interior Architecture and Design. After getting married and moving to the Langham area in the late 1980’s, she taught within the local public-school system for 6 years before moving to live and work in Bangladesh for 3 years with Mennonite Central Committee. This experience was a pivotal moment for Valerie, propelling her to cease teaching, and to pursue instead her own creative endeavors in art, music and design. Her paintings and her music are inspired by the wide swathes of sky and vast horizons that surround her home farm in all directions.

Valerie has a full album named Fallow Ground that was released in 2018 and has been re-released on May 1st, 2024.  She and her son, JUSTDAVEthe1 also collaborated to make an EP names Rehumanizing.

  • Valerie Wiebe and JUSTDAVEthe1 drop EP: Rehumanizing May 21st

Valerie Wiebe and JUSTDAVEthe1 drop EP: Rehumanizing May 21st

    May 7, 2024

Valerie Wiebe and JUSTDAVEthe 1 are excited to announce the release of their three song EP, "Rehumanizing" on May 21st, 2024 wherever you stream music!

“Rehumanizing,” the new mother/son EP collaboration from singer-songwriter Valerie Wiebe and Hip Hop artist JUSTDAVEthe1, takes a hard look at how our current societal attitudes often dehumanize people, and offers up some insight into how we, as a human species, might turn that around.

The first track “Ashes”, a sorrowful lament for the people of Palestine, explores how often we fail to live up to our best human potential when we ignore the cries of suffering around us, and makes a commitment to do better.

“Be Human”, with a driving beat and layered vocals, serves as a heartfelt plea for empathy and understanding in a world that often lacks it.

The EP concludes with "Close Your Eyes," exploring how our biases can colour our perspectives of others, and is a poignant reflection on combatting prejudices in order to reclaim our humanity.

Through thoughtful lyrics and emotive melodies, "Rehumanizing" invites listeners to consider the ways in which we can combat dehumanization and foster a more compassionate society.

We would like to recognize the beat producers: JustDan for "Ashes", Autra Martin for "Be Human", and eeryskies for "Close Your Eyes".  We would also like to shoutout Jomei Newkirk (Emperor Jomei) who recorded, mixed, and mastered the EP with Prima Lux Productions, as well as Valerie Wiebe's Business Management group, WieManage Creative Asset Management, and JUSTDAVEthe1's Manager, Marc Blain.
