Description
Background
The Southern Saskatchewan Summer Solstice Festival Inc. (known as Summer Solstice Festival d’été) is a volunteer run, non-profit organization. This festival is very important to the community of Gravelbourg and the surrounding area as it explores various cultures, builds camaraderie, improves communication, and instills a sense of civic pride.
Mandate:
Celebrate the spirit of our Southern Saskatchewan landscape through art, music, and dance by providing a living, interactive diary of culture – ‘things of the spirit’ - to local, regional and provincial audiences.
Vision:
Our vision is to continually nurture an annual, multicultural, arts and culture festival that presents a diversity of programming and performance genres.
Goals:
-Promote the rich culture and heritage of Gravelbourg and area.
-Demonstrate the vibrant ‘quality of life’ in Gravelbourg and area through support of a cultural mandate.
-Develop the annual event into a unique arts and culture festival that presents a line-up of entertainment that is reflective of ‘solstice’ and Gravelbourg – land and spirit. It will retain a connection to the land and environment and will incorporate both of Canada’s official languages in delivery and programming as much as possible.
-Introduce new and innovative aspects to the event each year as it evolves – expanding the awareness and appreciation for arts and culture amongst residents and visitors alike.
-Enhance economic activity via tourism appeal.
-Maintain a unique position in the Saskatchewan Festival and Event Marketplace.
-Support and promote Saskatchewan artists/performers, while placing value on the audience as a key component of the festival and as such incorporating out of province performers.
-Increase funding by networking and creating partnerships.
