Description
Jeff D. Michel (MIK‐ul) is a CFMA‐nominated singer/songwriter, multi‐instrumentalist and producer living and working in Estevan, Saskatchewan. His latest single, Just Another Winter, was released on October 30, 2020, and Jeff is currently recording a new album of original material, expected out in the spring/summer of 2021. This is Jeff’s third solo release, following his 2006 debut The Seasons, and the 2014 single Love You a Little While, and his first new music since the 2018 Hook & Nail album Ghosts of Taylorton.
Jeff’s second full‐length album is an eclectic mix of country‐tinged folk/rock songs, exploring themes of aliens, family, loss, winter whimsy, dragons, storms and the wisdom gained as one grows older. His songwriting style has matured to reflect the influence that folk music has had and embraces its storytelling nature, yet retains the edge and drive of his blues/rock roots. The first single, Just Another Winter, offers a lighthearted perspective into Canadian winters and features longtime friend and bandmate Mike Davis of Hook & Nail/Last Birds on dobro. Additional tracks include Cabin in the Woods which reminisces about Jeff’s parents’ summer cottage and the memories shared there, while Two Kids Dressed as Dragons tells the fantastic story of The Dragons and the 7‐Horned Monster, based loosely on events that took place at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Back to the Moon, again featuring Davis on slide guitar, ponders if we’re truly alone in the universe ‐ and perhaps by choice. The Only Thing, inspired by a comment from a coworker, laments the loss of a wife and mother in childbirth and Professor of Intuition cleverly ventures into the world of the sixth sense.
In addition to his solo efforts, Jeff is a member of the folk/roots trio Hook & Nail, whose debut album Ghosts of Taylorton earned them a 2020 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for New/Emerging Artist of the Year. Three singles from the album (Adeline, Two Tons, Ride) have been featured on CBC as well as coast‐to‐coast on college/campus radio. Ghosts of Taylorton tied for the #4 spot in the SaskMusic’s Best Saskatchewan Albums of 2018. Hook & Nail performed for a national televised audience as part of the 2020 Kinsmen TeleMiracle and provided an unreleased track for a 2019 SaskTel TV/digital ad campaign.
When Jeff isn’t doing music‐related things, he relaxes with his cats and enjoys growing hot peppers and various fruits in his backyard that combine to make a hot jam with a slow, sweet burn.

New Music from Jeff D. Michel - Firehose of Lies
February 11, 2026
Firehose of Lies is the latest single from Jeff D. Michel, an Estevan, SK, based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. It is his first new music since the release of his 2021 album Back to the Moon, and one of only a select number of new songs containing vocals. On Firehose of Lies, Jeff blends elements of folk/roots/blues with thoughtful and well-crafted lyrics to convey the urgency of current events. Firehose of Lies is a clear-eyed and sober look at the divisive and dangerous state of the current United States political landscape and its enablers, as seen from an outsider’s lens. Firehose of Lies will be released to all digital/streaming services on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Firehose of Lies is the first offering from Jeff’s forthcoming collection of new music, tentatively entitled The View From Up Here, an eclectic mix of instrumental and vocal tracks, with instrumental themes ranging from high-energy backcountry off-roading vibes to meandering, light, acoustic-driven pieces. The vocal tracks offer insightful commentary on some of the urgent social justice issues at the forefront of the current daily news cycles.
Jeff’s 2021 album Back to the Moon was well-received at radio, with 4 tracks featured regionally on CBC Radio One (SK) as well as College Radio with adds/rotation in over 65 markets across the US and Canada. It tied for #10 in the Best Saskatchewan Albums of 2021 and was nominated in the Best Roots/Folk Album category in 2022. Never Had a Chance to Miss You from Back to the Moon was selected as a semi-finalist in the 2021 International Songwriting Competition. In 2020, as a member of the folk/roots trio Hook & Nail, their album Ghosts of Taylorton earned them a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for New/Emerging Artist of the Year.
Watch for additional tracks from The View From Up Here to be announced leading up to the full album release expected in Fall of 2026. Follow Jeff on social media to stay informed of release dates and other news.
