Ross Nykiforuk • Bio/CV

Ross Nykiforuk is an accomplished producer, musician, and film and television composer with a career spanning more than three decades. He began his full-time career in music in 1988, touring across Western Canada with various artists, including Kevin and Corey Churko and Shane Hendrickson (The Underground Outlaws).

In 1990, Ross joined The Northern Pikes on their Snow in June tour—an experience that marked a pivotal moment in his career. Touring throughout Canada, the United States, and Japan, he further developed his musical range while recording in renowned studios such as A&M Studios and Metalworks Studios.

Following the band’s hiatus in 1993, Ross completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Saskatchewan and shifted his focus toward film scoring and media production. Since then, he has composed music for a wide range of television series, including Wapos Bay, Rabbit Fall, Cotter’s Wilderness Trails, and The Other Side, as well as feature films such as Shadow Puppets, A Fairy Tale Christmas, and The Dinosaur Hunter. His work also extends to documentaries including Psychedelic Pioneers, Childhood Lost, and The Gift of the Grandfathers.

In addition to his screen work, Ross has played on and produced dozens of albums for artists including The Sheepdogs, The Northern Pikes, Allyson Reigh, Punch Drunk Cabaret, and Eekwol, among others.

Ross’s work has earned significant industry recognition, including two Gemini Awards nominations for Best Original Music Score (Dramatic Series and Animated Series). He received a Western Canadian Music Awards nomination for Producer of the Year for The Northern Pikes album It’s A Good Life, and a Sask Music Awards nomination for Producer of the Year in 2024. In 2025, he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Awards for Song of the Year.

His engineering work was recognized with a Juno Award for The Sheepdogs single I Don’t Know. He has also received a Blizzard Award and an SMPIA Award for his score to Paris or Somewhere, and most recently won Best Musical Score at the Saskatchewan International Film Festival for the short film Wicked Plans.

Known for his innovative orchestration, meticulous mixing, and uncompromising attention to detail, Ross continues to push creative boundaries in composition and sound design, contributing to film, television, and music production while inspiring the next generation of artists.
