Regina Songwriters - Amy Nelson

Regina Songwriters this Sunday

The next Regina Songwriters x SaskMusic meetup will be Sunday, May 26, 2-4pm, Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre, Regina. (Zoom option available)

We will welcome guest speaker, country artist/songwriter/music business owner @amynelsonmusic . Amy will chat about her approach to songwriting, co-writing with others, tips & tricks for songwriting, as well as her experience with a lengthy career in the Saskatchewan (and international!) music scene.

This event is free for all to attend and we encourage songwriters of all skill levels, genres, and ages to join us, from 'curious about songwriting' to veteran performer!

Following the chat we'll have a song share so bring your latest pieces or those that you'd like feedback on to share with the group in a fun, low pressure environment.

Join us in person or via Zoom. Zoom registration here.

Canadian country artist Amy Nelson has proudly waved the Canadian flag on stages all over the world. With a focus on the Australian market, she has completed ten tours down under and achieved two Top 10 singles on Aussie country radio. Amy’s career has been highly recognized in Canada throughout the years, including 49 Saskatchewan Country Music Award nominations. Amy has performed at the Calgary Stampede, Canadian Music Week, Country Thunder Saskatchewan, AmericanaFest, BreakOut West, JunoFest, Australian Music Week and hundreds of other events, festivals and venues. She is also helping to shape the next generation of artists through the company she founded, Sing Like A STAR, which teaches music lessons and has helped to build the skills and confidence of over 3000 children across Saskatchewan.

With thanks to Creative Saskatchewan.

CLMA Study

NEW Nationwide Live Music Study

Exciting news is on the horizon for Canada’s live music industry, and we need YOUR voice to make it happen!

The Canadian Live Music Association (CLMA) announces “Hear and Now: understanding the economic power and potential of Canada’s live music industry,” marking the first-ever Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) focusing on the live music sector in Canada.

As a first step, the CLMA and consulting firm Nordicity are launching a survey directed at, and intended to be completed by, all those who work in the Canadian live music industry. Your involvement is essential. Every voice counts towards shaping our future!

Who: The live music industry - including any industry association, business, organization or individual involved in any aspect of concert production, promotion and/or execution. Artists, venues, festivals, agents, promoters, publicists, managers, suppliers, technicians, and staff. For the purposes of this project, the live music industry refers to the sector of the music business focused on organizing, promoting, and presenting live musical performances.

Why: The impacts of live music in Canada have never been assessed at the national level before. Existing research that has been conducted at the national level lumps live music into the broader music sector. As such, there is not sufficient data to identify the impacts and, by extension, the specific needs of the live music sector. This assessment is especially valuable now, as the live music sector seeks to continue its recovery from COVID-19.

Demonstrating the impact of our sector will help to shift the narrative and ensure positive, progressive growth on behalf of the industry. Live music is an economic powerhouse, and gathering this data will help tell our story.

Survey Close Date: June 6/24

Together, let’s harness the power of data to enact positive change and secure the ongoing growth and prosperity of Canada’s cultural landscape.

Take the survey now: https://bit.ly/HearAndNow2024

Reeperbahn - Canada House

Showcase Submissions: Canada House at Reeperbahn 2024

CIMA (in partnership with SaskMusic and other provincial organizations) will be heading back to Germany for Reeperbahn 2024. We’ll once again be hosting Canada House and presenting showcases. This is a fantastic opportunity to access the 4th largest worldwide music market with Reeperbahn attracting thousands of artists and music industry professionals from across the globe. To learn more about Reeperbahn click here.

Submissions are now open for bands/artists to showcase at this year’s Canada House. We recommend this opportunity for export-ready artists (see SaskMusic's definition of export-ready here.) Artists who are accepted to showcase at Reeperbahn are generally able to access grant funding from Creative Saskatchewan, FACTOR Canada, and/or other funders. SaskMusic will be attending and supporting Sask artists selected for Reeperbahn with pre-event coaching, assistance in reviewing grant applications, and on the ground support during the event, in addition to co-presenting the slots of any Sask artists selected for Canada House. Please contact us if you aren't sure if this opportunity is right for you and we can advise.

When: September 16-21, 2024 (Possible pre-event in Berlin also)

Where: Hamburg, Germany

Details: If you are applying for showcases, you will not be charged. If you are accepted the presenter of the showcase will be charged (ie for Saskatchewan artists, this will be SaskMusic). Please note that each artist must have a business representative but can represent themself. Companies interested in participating in just the business portion of this mission (no showcasing artist) can also do so and will be invoiced once this application is complete.

Pre-Event/Showcase in Berlin: CIMA may also be holding a pre-Reeperbahn showcase and biz event in Berlin on Monday, September 16. On the form please let us know if you are interested in applying for that as well (all Sask applicants strongly encouraged). All biz participants will be invited to attend the business events in Berlin.

Fees: Canada House showcases are co-presented by the provincial music associations, partners and funders. These showcasing costs will be incurred by the presenting partner.

How to Apply:

1. Fill out CIMA’s Canada House application form here.

2. Also complete Reeperbahn’s official artist application form here. (Artists are encouraged to apply as early as possible, and by end of May at the latest, if they are interested in a Canada House slot. This allows for adequate time for marketing, promotion and to obtain funding.

3. Contact SaskMusic to discuss your export plan for the German market.

You must complete both Reeperbahn’s application form and CIMA’s Canada House form in order to be considered for a play at Canada House during Reeperbahn.

The Canada House showcase deadline is Friday, May 31, 2024.
