SaskMusic's Latest

Brittney group

Farewell, Brittney!

Our Program and Education Manager, Brittney MacFarlane, has departed SaskMusic to take on a new career challenge.

Brittney notes, "Over the past nine years at SaskMusic, I’ve had the privilege to work with and learn from so many incredibly talented artists and industry pals, and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity. The art being created in this province is so special, and having had the chance to help support and educate folks through workshops, panels, grant reviews, export missions and one on one mentorship as they follow their dreams has been truly inspiring and rewarding to me. Although I’m excited to be moving into a new role supporting the arts in a different capacity, I’m also very sad to be leaving the team at SaskMusic.

Thank you all for the many years of music, friendship and trust, I wish you huge success in everything that’s yet to come!"

While we are very sad to be losing Brittney as a team member here at SaskMusic, we are super grateful for the years she has contributed her skills toward growing our association, and we look forward to continuing to work with her in her new position at Creative Saskatchewan.

Ben Valiaho

Congratulations, Ben!
We are pleased to announce that Ben Valiaho will be moving from Program and Administrative Coordinator into the role of Program and Education Manager with SaskMusic. Ben will be overseeing all of our educational initiatives from consults and workshops, to high school visits and Very Prairie 2024.

Ben has been working with us since 2016 and has contributed to all areas of our programming, and has often been the first person you’ll chat with over the phone and email.

Ben Valiaho got his start as a producer and volunteer host at 91.3FM CJTR Regina Community Radio over fifteen years ago, contributing to their Board in various capacities and receiving the "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2020 from the station. His commitment to music continued within the halls of the University of Regina where he enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Studies Masters Program with a focus on live performance. While at the U of R, Ben was also Research Assistant at the Interactive Media & Performances Labs, teaching workshops and hosting community hours for those who wanted to learn how to make electronic music, scratch records, or record. Ben has been a turntablist for over fifteen years, DJing at events around the city, and is an enthusiastic lover of many musical styles.
