Numbers Behind the Music
This FREE session is intended for musical creatives including songwriters, musicians, artists, bands, studios, producers, visual creators, marketing folks and more.
Whatever your role now or planning for the future, and whether you are DIY or have a team, understanding the "numbers" behind your creations will help your decision-making and buy back time to focus on your art.
Join mentor Martina of BackBeat Bookkeeping for an interactive and fun (yes we said fun!) session to better understand your artistic financial questions, including:
- What are the Canada Revenue Agency's tracking and reporting requirements?
- What roles do bookkeepers, accountants, and lawyers play?
- What is my business "entity" for tax purposes?
- What are accounting terms such as assets or budgets, and why do they help make better decisions?
- Are audits the "scariest" thing in the world?
Hope to see you there!

Deadline midnight CST February 15, 2024
NEXT WAVE, offered by SaskMusic in partnership with ENKI Music (UK) is intended to provide Saskatchewan-based export-ready artists with knowledge, strategies, and resources to develop and accelerate their careers internationally, primarily in the EU/UK market.
This mentorship program will consist of an introductory workshop about the program and developing an international strategy, and a series of one-on-one mentorship and feedback sessions for the selected artists. We anticipate being able to accept 6 artists into this program. A further 2 spots have been reserved for the Sask. artists who have been confirmed for official showcases at The Great Escape festival (UK) 2024. The approximate value of services that will be provided to each artist accepted into this program is over $1500CDN.
Accepted artists will commit to participating in a minimum of 3 hours per month of scheduled online training and mentor sessions from February through May 2024. (Dates/times will be coordinated between ENKI and the artist). Access to a high-speed internet connection and webcam will be required. Artists will be required to complete a feedback survey upon completion of the program.
If applying on behalf of your band, typically 1-2 members would take on self-management duties for the band, and be the participants in this program.
We will accept applications from artists who:
- are current SaskMusic members who currently reside in SK and are over the age of 18
- have promotional material available to the public online, including a web homepage and/or social media presence
- Have a current marketing and/or business plan
- Meet at least 4 of the export criteria in our export-ready checklist.
We want participating artists to come away with clearly defined export goals, an understanding of the next steps required in their musical path, a campaign strategy to better develop future international opportunities, and international music industry connections.

DID YOU KNOW that SaskMusic does not distribute grants?
Occasionally we hear from folks who think SaskMusic still provides music grants!
While we did so for a brief period just prior to the creation of Creative Sask (happy 10th anniversary, Creative Sask!), we no longer distribute any music grants ourselves - such as for recording, touring, marketing, and showcasing.
However, we CAN help advise you on how to prepare an application, help get you started on or provide feedback on your marketing and release strategies, or discuss which funders might offer programs that align with your goals.
You can book a session with a SaskMusic staff member or (if you're a member) one of our Music Mentors by visiting https://www.saskmusic.org/how-to/book-a-consult.
SaskMusic is also the provincial representative of FACTOR (The Foundation for Canadian Talent on Recordings) and can pass along comments/suggestions on their programs.
