SaskMusic Showcase at Canadian Music Week 2021

SaskMusic is pleased to present a Saskatchewan showcase at Canadian Music Week, taking place virtually May 18-21. Our presentation will be available through the CMW website for free to the public on Wednesday May 19, 2021 from 5-10pm (7:00pm–12:00am EST). Following the stream, the showcase will be available on demand for a further 6 months.

Our event will feature five Saskatchewan artists: 3 Moonjask, Ellen Froese, LJ Tyson, Melodna, and Origin of Spin, each of whom were filmed by SaskMusic earlier this year as part of our Winter Showcase initiative. These live-filmed performances were purposefully created with the intention of having high-quality content ready for export-ready artists which could then be pitched to domestic and international music market events such as this. A panel of industry professionals was enlisted to make suitable selections for this specific event from amongst our Winter Showcase participants.

Additionally, Saskatchewan’s Aurora Bella, Kaye & Co, Phoenix and the SilverVoodoos, Tumbleweeds, and velours were selected for showcase inclusion directly by CMW festival organizers.

Behind the board

Behind The Board: Karen Gwillim

"I sometimes have had artists/organizers apologize for not thanking me at the end of a show, to which I respond, if you didn’t have to think about the sound, then I’ve done my job. We are often invisible when things go well.”

SaskMusic proudly presents Behind the Board: Karen Gwillim! We are sharing the stories and credentials of the incredible sound techs across the province.

Behind the Board: Barrett Ross

"When showing up to perform, try to keep your set-up as simple as you can. Trouble shooting is part of the gig, but if your whole soundcheck is spent getting your stuff to work, confidence in the show will be shaken in both you and the technician."

SaskMusic proudly presents Behind the Board: Barrett Ross! We are sharing the stories and credentials of the incredible sound techs across the province.

FACTOR

NEW FUNDING Support for Live Music Events - FACTOR Canada

The purpose of this program is to stimulate the employment of Canadian artists and cultural workers, including technicians and other service providers and supporting workers, by providing financial support for live music events that use Canadian artists. These can be in-person presentations (adhering to local guidelines, with the understanding that these are in flux) and/or digital. It's intended to take away some of the risk factor of presenting events and get live event workers back to work.

Applicants can be for example: artists (for local or virtual tours), managers, booking agents, concert promoters, venues that have a capacity under 2500, festivals.
Ineligible: Radio/TV broadcasters; venues associated with a city/municipality or educational institution; not-for-profit festivals/presenters and others that are already supported by BCAH, CAPF and CCA. Some exceptions apply.

Priority will be given to equity-seeking populations and Indigenous-led organizations as well as applicants that do not traditionally receive Canada Music Fund funding but were eligible for the 2020 Emergency Support Fund.

SaskMusic note: While this is a rolling deadline, we encourage those interested to get your applications in ASAP as funding is expected to be exhausted at some point. Additionally, the sooner you apply, the sooner you would receive notice on whether you are successful or not, with summer/fall programming in mind. The lead applicant can only apply once to this program so you'll want to plan out your full roster of shows in the one application.

Learn more at http://www.factor.ca/live/ . If you'd like support/bounce ideas off for your application please let us know, info@saskmusic.org
