Regina Songwriters Feb 25

Regina Songwriters Group: February Meeting

“Playing with Chords”
Sunday, Feb 25/2024, 230-4:30 pm (Free)
Neil Balkwill Centre, 2420 Elphinstone St, Regina
To attend by Zoom register here

All skill levels & styles welcome!

SaskMusic and Regina Songwriters welcome songwriters to join us for a fun, casual, and free workshop where we'll be exploring different chord progressions that can be used in creating original songs, and how they show up in current songs that we've all heard. We'll draw inspiration from standard chords and delve into more unusual chord progressions to spice up your writing.

You don't need to know how to play an instrument to join this session - non-musicians can later use chord generator apps as a writing aid, for example.

Following our chat, songwriters will be invited to share their original material for feedback. Whether you're just getting started or a veteran songwriter, join us and meet up with other local songwriters!

Things you may want to bring: Something to take notes, water bottle, guitar (optional). A keyboard will be available for the sharing portion.

Work Together

Work Together: WCMA Applications and FAQs

Tuesday, February 27/2024, 6:30-8:30pm (Free)
Munchies and pop/coffee provided
Regina: SaskMusic Office – 1831 College Ave (3rd Floor) - Boardroom
Saskatoon: Rusty Macdonald Library - 225 Primrose Dr – Meeting Room

Register: https://saskmusic.wufoo.com/forms/m1arjrjh0fuyq40/
Please pre-register by midnight February 24

We're launching a new series of informal work nights! Each meetup will have a different focus of interest, with the idea being it would be more fun and motivating to work on necessary industry stuff like grant applications, artist bios, and tour strategies if together with peers, in a space where you have a mentor at hand and can bounce ideas off each other.

Our first date is Tuesday, February 27 in Regina and Saskatoon and we'll be talking about how to submit a nomination for a Western Canadian Music Award. Even if you aren't planning to submit this year, we'll attempt to demystify the process of this and other award intakes so you're ready for a future submission.

Each Work Together will kick off with a short tutorial on the subject of interest, followed by open time for workshopping and networking. If you think this is a good idea, please come out, and we'll keep these going.

Bring if possible: laptop or tablet; paper/pen; your artist photo, bio, and music files if you have them ready.
