SaskMusic's Latest

SaskMusic Culture Day programming a success!

Between Oct. 1-9, 2025, SaskMusic was delighted to host seventeen, free, all-ages music workshops in five Saskatchewan communities: Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Regina, Weyburn, and Yorkton.

These workshops were intended to give an overview and introduction to various musical frameworks, and included The Fundamentals of Singing, Songwriting, Beatmaking, and Home Studios. The workshops were loaded with tips, tricks, and best practices for developing emerging-musicians' music careers.

SaskMusic would like to recognize that our Culture Days events were made possible in part through the support of Creative Saskatchewan, FACTOR, the Government of Canada, Canada's private radio broadcasters

Further, this programming would not have been possible without the many participants who learned about the fundamentals of music with us, and our nine talented presenters: Alyssa Woolhether, Dara Schindelka, Lindsay Knight aka Eekwol, LA Roddick, Lorena Kelly, Mahihkan Music, Nige B, Sonia Reid, and Walter Jeworski.

If you attended and of our events, and have any feedback, please feel free to fill out this survey and tell us how we can improve these events!

JUNO Nominations

JUNO Submissions Open Now

SaskMusic offering bursaries

The 2026 JUNO Awards Submissions Presented by TD Bank Group are open until November 7 at 1am SK.

National music release dates must fall between the eligibility period of  September 1, 2024 to November 7, 2025. For a complete list of categories, rules, and voting criteria, visit The JUNO website.

Sask Music bursary deadline: midnight November 10, 2025

Making a JUNO Awards nomination submission this year? We can help!
We will accept applications from artists and music industry professionals currently residing in SK to have the cost of one CARAS voting membership, plus 50% of the costs of up to two category nomination submissions at early bird rates for the 2025 JUNO Awards, reimbursed to a total eligible maximum reimbursement of $185 plus taxes per applicant/artist.

As the CARAS representative of Saskatchewan, SaskMusic encourages those submitting for JUNO nominations to obtain a CARAS membership so that you can fully participate in the awards process (plus, CARAS offers some great member perks).

To apply for a bursary you must join CARAS or already be a CARAS member before you submit for nominations (in order to receive the CARAS member discount for your submissions). A CARAS annual membership is $85 plus tax. All bursary requests must be accompanied by the receipt/proof of submission provided by CARAS. SaskMusic reserves the right to request proof of current residency in SK.

The JUNO deadline for discounted early-bird submissions: October 4, 2025 1AM (This is the rate we are covering 50% of)
Final deadline: November 7, 2025 1AM

Example of bursary request
CARAS Membership $85 (new or renewal) - fully covered
First category submission $55 (at early bird member rate) - covered at 50%
Second category submission $55 (at early bird, member rate) - covered at 50%
Your total cost would be $195 plus tax
Your bursary request can be up to $140 plus taxes

We anticipate being able to support most qualified applications to this program, but we reserve the right to reject any application or close bursary submissions early if we reach our capacity threshold. Applicants can expect a response to their application and reimbursement, if approved, within 4 weeks of our application deadline.

Record companies/labels/managers submitting on behalf of Saskatchewan-based artists they represent may also apply to this fund.

Please note: Bursaries are not available for the cost of a CARAS membership only - you must be submitting a nomination to be eligible.

The bursary application form is available here.

Regina Songwriters x SaskMusic Meetup: Lyrical Intentions & Co-Writing with Kara Golemba

  • Sunday, October 19, 7:00-9:00 pm
  • In person at The Club (The Exchange - 2431 8th Ave) and via Zoom.
  • Free to attend; songwriters of all skill levels and styles are welcome!

We encourage you to register in advance, but drop-ins are also welcome.
Register to attend In Person: https://saskmusic.wufoo.com/forms/q1d2hzav0j5m8qz/
Register to attend over Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/jmUh7sT1QPCKDDc_JYXW1g

Kara Golemba will join us to discuss how she approaches lyrics and song topics with intention as she breaks down a few of her new songs and the thought processes behind them. She’ll also jump into open discussions about process writing and some tricks about how to shift comfort patterns.

She’ll finish with some information about the many ways to approach co-writing, the different intentions behind different styles or desired outcomes. Kara will also provide suggestions on how to prepare for each co-writing experience; no two co-writes are the same!

Following the discussion, we'll have a song share - bring your latest pieces or those that you'd like feedback on to share with the group.

Bring your pen/paper, writing devices, and your guitar or main instrument if you wish to participate in the song share portion. A vocal mic and a small PA system will be available for use if needed; please note that a keyboard will not be on hand this month.

Song Share:

The song share allows songwriters to share what they’ve been working on and receive feedback from other songwriters in a supportive environment. There will typically be time for one song per person during the song share. If you know in advance that you plan to share a song, please let us know when you register so we can try to time things accordingly.

If you choose to participate in the song share, you may wish to share your lyrics with us so we can share them with the group on the night of the event. This allows the other songwriters in the room (as well as those on Zoom) to follow along, which can be helpful for receiving feedback on your song. This is entirely optional, but if you wish to share your lyrics, you can upload them when you register (on the in-person registration form) or email them to us at songwriters@saskmusic.org.

Regina Songwriters Group:

The Regina Songwriters Group exists to develop the craft of songwriting and provide a peer network of songwriters, lyricists, composers and beatmakers. Meetings are generally held once a month with additional songwriting exercises, resources and information shared on socials.

Kara Golemba Bio:

Kara Golemba's most recent release, a full length album entitled "Keep These Stories Safe" has a self-confidence woven through its themes and tones. She uses her craft to distill her life experiences in ways that awaken the listener to their own vulnerabilities. With production sensibilities reminiscent of Susan Tedeschi or Brandi Carlile, Golemba holds her listeners with both a powerfully dynamic voice and a hooky guitar.

The Proudly Saskatchewan Showcase winner received a nomination from The Saskatchewan Music Awards 2022 for Roots Artist of the year and "Keep These Stories Safe" was declared one of the Top 10 albums at the Saskatchewan Music awards in 2023.

SaskMusic and partners present Come Together in Toronto in November

Artists and industry professionals from across Canada are converging in Toronto next month for the fifth annual celebration of live music at the Come Together showcases and industry meetings.

Ten Provincial Music Associations: Alberta Music, Music BC, SaskMusic, Manitoba Music, Music/Musique NB, Music NL, Music Nova Scotia, Music Yukon, Music Ontario, and SODEC, Quebec, have joined forces to spotlight Canada’s powerhouse independent live music scene.

The genre-spanning, invite-only showcases for industry professionals will run November 25 at The Horseshoe Tavern, and November 26 at The Drake Underground, featuring performances from fourteen acclaimed artists.

This year, Saskatchewan artists Big Tones and Greenwing have been selected for official showcases! Congratulations!

The Horseshoe Tavern Showcase Times:
November 25, 2025: 5-10 pm

  • The Pairs
  • Michaela Slinger
  • Greenwing (SK)
  • sundayclub
  • Diyet & The Love Soldiers
  • Rachel Cousins
  • Maggie Andrew

The Drake Underground Showcase Times:
November 26, 2025: 5-10 PM

  • Dempsey Bolton
  • Zada
  • Tommyphyll
  • Dee Hernandez
  • Hologramme
  • Diogo Ramos
  • Big Tones (SK)

Beyond the showcases, Come Together is a critical opportunity for the artists to build business relationships with key music industry professionals from Toronto and surrounding areas, including labels, agents, managers, publishers, music supervisors, publicists, and more.

Showcasing acts work directly with their provincial music association to identify business contacts for industry meetings. Come Together is a push towards industry connections, team building, and business strategies for both artists and music companies.

This project is made possible by the generous support from FACTOR, the Government of Canada and Canada’s private radio broadcasters; The Province of Alberta, Creative BC and The Province of British Columbia, The Manitoba Government, Manitoba Film & Music, Creative Saskatchewan, The Government of Quebec, Ontario Creates, The Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland & Labrador, and the Yukon Territory.

How were the artists selected?

A call for submissions was distributed by event partners in June 2025. All artists programmed for this opportunity were selected by a national industry jury.
