Creative Saskatchewan is currently looking for representatives from Saskatchewan’s creative industries and community who are interested in contributing their knowledge, energy and commitment to the well-being and commercial enhancement of our creative industries in Saskatchewan. The Board of Directors is appointed by the Minister of Parks, Culture & Sport, and has the statutory power and obligation as granted by The Creative Saskatchewan Act and The Creative Saskatchewan Regulations. Any interested community member or industry representative may submit their name for consideration for nomination to the Nominations Committee of Creative Saskatchewan.

Folk Alliance

Saskatchewan at North America's Premiere Folk Gathering

SaskMusic is pleased to present four Saskatchewan artists in New Orleans, Louisiana, January 22-25, 2020 as we return to the annual Folk Alliance International Conference, Camp, Show & Awards. Joining together in a partnership under the banner of BreakOut West, artists from Manitoba Music, Alberta Music, Music BC and SaskMusic will perform in private showcases for the thousands of international music industry professionals in attendance. Folk Alliance International provides the opportunity to share ideas, network, and celebrate traditional music and dance.

Saskatchewan artists participating this year are Poor Nameless Boy (who is also performing Official Showcases at the invitation of Folk Alliance); Valerie Raye, The North Sound, and Gunner & Smith. Showcases take place at the Sheraton New Orleans, downtown in the heart of the French Quarter. In addition to performing, the artists will attend the Folk Alliance conference and keynote sessions, industry tradeshow, and be able to take advantage of networking opportunities throughout the weekend with talent buyers, festival bookers, radio programmers, record labels and many others from around the world, all oriented on the folk, roots and world music industries.

Saskatchewan Arts Board Grant Programs Workshops

Two free Saskatchewan Arts Board grant program workshops will be held in Regina and Saskatoon in the coming weeks. These 90-minute workshops with a Saskatchewan Arts Board Program Consultant include an overview of Arts Board grant programs and activities, as well as some exercises in getting participants familiar with how grants are put together and evaluated. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Western Canadian Music Awards and Breakout West Festival!

Submissions for the Western Canadian Music Awards and BreakOut West Festival now open. The Western Canadian Music Awards celebrates the best of artistic talent in western Canada. Each year 50+ bands from across western Canada are selected to showcase for international and Canadian delegates at BreakOut West. Apply to showcase for artist managers, booking agents, festival buyers, label reps and more this year in Winnipeg, Sept. 30 - Oct. 4. Submission Deadline March 18/20.

Juno

Volunteer Applications Now Open for the JUNO Awards

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) invites the public to volunteer to participate in JUNO Week 2020 in Saskatoon, SK. The week-long music celebration commences Monday, March 9, closing with the country’s biggest night in music – The 49th annual JUNO Awards Broadcast – which will air live across Canada on CBC, CBC Radio and globally on Sunday, March 15.  

Volunteers will have the chance to meet and work alongside like-minded music lovers, while experiencing first-hand the unique opportunity of participating and assisting in the execution of a pillar event in the Canadian entertainment industry. Applicants must be 19 years of age or older to qualify.
