SaskMusic Showcase Filming, Intake 2
Deadline 5pm Friday, October 29, 2021 (extended)
Deadline: October 29, 2021
We are seeking submissions from Saskatchewan-resident artists who are interested in having a live performance professionally filmed for the purposes of marketing their music and/or for export development opportunities. These performances will be filmed without an audience present, and following government-recommended pandemic protocols, as well as those noted below. Artists will be filmed in either Regina or Saskatoon with a professional sound and video crew on a date to be discussed with artists, beginning in November 2021 and running into 2022.
The footage will be used by SaskMusic for promoting the selected artists, and the Saskatchewan music industry as a whole, in domestic and international markets. The footage will be later available to the artists for their own use. Our first intake of this program saw artist footage utilized at virtual showcase events including M for Montreal, Folk Alliance International (Folk Unlocked), New Colossus Festival (Upstairs Neighbours), Liverpool Sound City Digital, and Canadian Music Week, as well as the Saskatchewan Music Awards
Our goal is to film approximately 12 artists but this may be expanded as the program rolls out.
There will be two separate areas of focus for artists applying to this second intake:
1) Export-ready artists
2) Non-export ready (emerging) artists
You don't have to worry about picking a stream; you'll be placed in one based on your replies in the submission form.
Selections will lean to artists who do not already have an existing bank of high-quality performance footage.
Selected artists will be required to perform 2-3 songs of original material for the filming, but are encouraged to have more prepared for options on the day of filming. (The 'original music' stipulation does not apply to artists performing in the genres of traditional Indigenous music, jazz, or classical.)
All artists submitting are required to agree to our COVID-19 Policies (mandatory vaccination status for all artists and crew) and to our interim Code of Conduct. Applicants must also be current SaskMusic members.
Artists who were filmed as part of our 2020-2021 Winter Showcase program are ineligible to apply for this intake.
Before proceeding to the submission form, please have ready:
- MP3 versions of 2 songs you'd like to have filmed. These can be demos, or finished radio-quality releases.
- An artist bio to upload or available at a web link
- A statement about why you'd like to be selected for this opportunity
Those who are export-ready should also provide:
- A description of artist's target market(s) outside of Canada
- A marketing plan or strategy for export development (A rationale for why you're hoping to develop that market)
Diversity drives the creative spirit.
