BreakOut West and Western Canadian Music Awards Submissions Open Now!

Deadline: March 21, 2016

The WCMA Staff and Board have been hard at work to improve Western Canadian Music Award opportunities and have revitalized the award categories and guidelines for 2016. These newly updated categories will allow for a more inclusive and modern approach to recognizing the artists, industry and organizations in western Canada.

Among the changes, artists can now submit if they've released as few as 3 songs during the eligibility period.

Check out all the new categories & guidelines and submit by March 21! The 2016 WCMAs will be held Thursday, October 13 in Regina.

Also, Jurors for Western Canadian Music Awards:

The WCMAs are always looking for new jury members. Jury members are volunteering members of the music industry who are experts within their field and genre and represent the industry at large. Their knowledge and ability to interpret the current music landscape regionally and nationally makes them best qualified to help WCMA select the Western Canadian Music Awards.

If you are interested in becoming a juror, or know someone who would be a great addition to the jury, click above to fill out the 2016 Juror Application form. Any questions about the jury process, please contact Johnny Marlow at johnny@breakoutwest.ca or 204-943-8485.

New Economic Impact Survey: Please Give Us Your Voice!

We're calling on all artists, musicians, music business and industry professionals to participate in the new Creative Saskatchewan Economic Impact Survey. How much money really goes around in our industry? The results of the survey will help us build a stronger, healthier industry for all of us. Anyone who made ANY income in 2014 and/or 2015 from gigs, royalties, teaching music lessons, running a music business should participate - even if you spent more money than you earned on music! We also want to hear from any business that regularly hires musicians (venues, talent buyers, etc).

This survey will better position Creative Saskatchewan (and those funded by Creative Saskatchewan, including SaskMusic and our members) to demonstrate and celebrate the full value and importance of the creative industries to Saskatchewan’s economic growth.

Do you plan to apply for The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent On Recordings (FACTOR) funding in the near future?

Before anyone can apply for FACTOR funding, you need to have an Artist and Applicant profile built in the FACTOR system, which FACTOR staff then score against their Qualifying Criteria. Those criteria determine which programs you can apply to.

The next scoring will happen after the deadline of Monday February 29, 11:59pm PT. If you have an existing profile in the system, you also need to update it before this deadline to ensure you retain your rating!
